MX I STS l.ri TI K < \ M PI S Well, those cicadae 'seventeen year locusts to you > are here again. 1'hcy littered the campus today. The locust lives in a slit in a branch of a tree, and soon after tho young are hatched they fall to the ground. Then these industrious youngsters dig holes and bury themselves. During this sixteen-year vigil they transform into nymphs. In the .seventeenth year these nymphs come

out of the ground, climb into trees shed their shells, and become wingbearing adult locusts. Rain knocks many of the frail nymphs and a few adult locusts to the ground that accounts for the overabundance of them on the sidewalks at the present time. This downpour of cicadae will continue probably a couple oi weeks, so we can expect to crush these poor, juicy, unfortunate creatures under Riot for that long.

LOSS OF HA I It ATTItIBUTED TO TSE OF BOOTLEG LlQUOIt CHICAGO, (UP) “Alcoholic baldness" is becoming alarmingly prevalent in the United States, a “hangover” from prohibition days, according to Paul A. Thomas, hair and scalp specalist. "The majority of cases.” Thomas says, “are just beginning to show up, since it takes seven or eight years to reach the baldness stage. During prohibition constant drinking of bootleg gin and compounded liquor containing raw or impure alcohol frequently caused a scalp condition known as ‘hooch hair.’ “The shattered nervous system and over-stimulated blood circulation dissipated an dweakened the scalp, stopping its normal function and caused it U> develop irritations. The hair became dry and brittle. Baldness now is the result in most of these cases. Scalp specialists report that this type is becoming more and more common and that the response to treatment is slower than for many other scalp ailments.” Frank G. Stoessel spent Monday in Indianapolis on business.
