But even as she cried, Alex's fist lashed out, catching Devlin's Jaw. Devlin reeled back. Jean grabbed Alex. "Don't hit him again! I tell you he was trying to save me!" Jean rushed over to Devlin, helping him to Ills feet, itedlum broke loose in the crowd, amt with renewed fury it surged forward. In another moment. Jean, Alex and Devlin would be cut off irom the gates. Willard was panic-stricken. "Fire! Fire! It's their only chance now!" Kennedy nodded grimly "Let 'em have it," lie ordered. Alex, bewildered, turned Just as the command to lire rang out. The horrible realisation of what the murder would mean dashed through his mind. He Hung himself at the gates. "No! No' Walt!" he cried frantically. There was a sharp rat-a-tat as the guns spoke. Alex had spoken too late Directly In the line of. lue. ■tag ered back ward as the bullets struck. The mob scattered in wild confusion. Jean, screaming, ran towards her fallen brother, with Devlin following. The mob was silent now, stunned. Kennedy was the Ilrst to recover. He turned to his men. Alex Was carried, badly wounded, into the yards The crowd was silent until another car bore Us way through the mass of humanity—old Mary Hastings' The car stopped, and the defiant old figure of Mary made itself evident. ■ What’s going on? Over her shouts, came the shrill screams of the police sirens, as the Hastings calvacade tore, hell-bent through the crowd, knocking men down to be trampled by the milling trowd Only after a fierce struggle were the gates opened and tinHastings entourage let through to the yards Screaming and yelling, the crowd fell back, frustrated arifie butts cracked down on skulls Willard grabbed Kennedy “The train s due In ten minutes' Keep that mob back at any cost' Shoot If you must! Again death has entered our home and taken our beloved husband and lather, John Henry Boswell, son of George and Malissa Boswell, who was born in Madison township, Nov 30, 1869, and departed this life al his home, Jan. 4, 1935, at 4 p. m., at the ago of 66 years, one month am four days. He was born, reared and lived hit entire life in Madison township am received his education from Madisor township schools. John was dearly loved by all his neighbors and friend; and was always ready to help thosi more unfortunate than himself. Hi had not joined any church hut wai always a righteous believer and triei to do as his creator would want him to. In 1898 he was united in marriagt to Flora Burk, and to this union were born eight children, all of whom sui vive, except one jon who preceded him In death. He leaves to mourn his passing the wife, Mrs. Flora Boswell, thret sons. VVilford, Elmer and Clay, all ol Greeneaatle. and four daughters. Mrs Earl Hinkle and Mrs. Everett Mad dox of Greencastle and Mrs. Lola Crowe and Mrs. Bryan Boswell al home; also one sister, Mrs. Flora Hall of Bridegton. Ind., anil nim grandchildren and several nieces and newphews and a host of neighbor: and friends. One son. Fred and tw< sisters preceded him in death.
