Shows Bonus Army Quartered Criminals And Reds At Capital

WASHINGTON, Sept 12, (UP) — Attorney General MiLhcll’s report on the bonus army eviction, defending the use of federal troops, and declaring that ranks of the B. E. F. were threaded with criminals and communists reopened todav the controversy over the dramatic episode of last July. The report vis made public by President Hoover on the eve of the Ameiican Legion convention at Port land, Ore., today, with the expressed hope that it “should correct the many misstatements of fact a to this incident with whi h the country has been flooded.” Mitchell said the department of justice investigation disclosed that “appalling scenes of disorders” would have occurred the night of July 2K, but for the “prompt use of the military to outnumber and overawe the disturbers.” The administration was completely exonerated of ciiticisrr. for calling out the troops, Mitchell declaring that: “It is probable the bonus army brought into the citv of Washington the largest aggregation of criminals that had ever been asembled at any one time." Finger print vecoids of the 4,72” ex-service men in the bonus army who applied at the veterans bureau for loans to that they might return home, showed that l,0t)0 had police records, Mitchell said. Of this number K29, he said, "had been convi ted for vai
