SYNOPSIS
hollowing Ihe receipt of a death threat, Lola Carewe, known as "I he Night Club Lady”, is mysteriously -lain in her penthouse apartment at 3 a. m. New Year's. Dr. Hugh Baldwin reports death due to heart‘»ailure. 'Ihe only clue to Ihe murderer is a medical laboratory spci linen box found outside Lola's window e 'olii'e Commissioner Thatcher Colt attaches importance to the young man whose photograph is found in Lola's room, and whose identity Lola had refused to reveal beyond Ids first: name, “Basil”. \t the mention of “Basil”. Mrs. < arrwe, Lola’s mother, | becomes hysterical. It is known that I Lola quarreled w ilh Guy Everett and Vincent Rowland, a lawyer, over in- , lesfments. Eunice, the maid, confesses she was employed by Everett to report the goings on in ihe apartment. The mystery deepens with Ihe finding of Ihe body of < hri-linc Ijuires, Lola’s guest. Christine had been killed belore Lola and her body hidden unlil an opportune moment arrived for Ihe murderer to place it, soaking wet, in Lola's room.
