Morning Mimicale Held Vnnual Gue-t Meeting At its annual (iutst day meeting Wednesday afternoon in Evans hall, Bowman gymnasium, the members of the Miming Musk-ale, generou: Iv ;o aisled by Vernon Sheffield and Henry Rolling, presented to a hundred and fifty guests a group of numbers i»presentative <>l the study program of the club for the past year. During the year the semi-monthly meeting | of tlie organization have been devoted to the study and illustration of the* rise and development of v .cal and j instrumental music in Italy, Germany, France, ami Russia, from the folk song through tlie early religion-, music to the complicated opera and symphony of more recent years. The string ensemble, accompanied by Mrs. L. C. Conrad, began the af ter noon with the Andante, Adagio, and Allegro f Corelli’s ‘Sonata.’’ Ncailatti, early Italian composer of piano music, was represented by the vagaries of his “Pastorale” and the whimsy M his “Cat’s Fugue," both played by Miss Maijorie Lower. Mts. Gerard Baerg, in the Andante movement of Mozart’s "Sonata in A Maj or” and the “Intermezzi", by Brahms, drew an interesting contrast between the brilliance and clarity of the eai lier German comp , , ;l n,l the deeper and more complex harmonic- of the latter. The German “Lied” was repre sented, perhaps in its highest form by Miss Edna Bowles, who, accompanied by Mr. Rolling, sang Schubert’s "Du hist die Ruh” and Hral.m’s “Meinp Liplx* is ffnipn.” Those chosen from the later nine teenth century French composers were Massenet and Franck. In the two quieter movements of Massenet’s "A! nation Sketches” "Sunday Morrfing” and "Under the Lindens”, the string ensemble, consisting of Miss Louise Palmer Walker, Mrs. John Egan Miss Garnet Sackett, Mrs. J M. Fu | ln „ r .Miss Virginia Harlow, Miss Edna ftowles, and Mrs. L. C. Conrad, r. created the mingled re|igj„ Us H()lem . mty and quiet dignity of an Alsatian Sunday. Mts. Rowland Leach, accompanied by Mrs. Cordelia Burton, sang ’TI est doux. il est bon," from M a . . senet’s “Heipdiade," bringing t, t|, P audience the more dramatic aspects of this composer’s work.
