President’s Day

For the President’s day program of the Gieenrastle Morning Musicale, which met at the home of Mrs. E. R Smith Wednesday morning, the hostess presented the Purple Robed choir and their director, Kenneth Umfleet, In introducing the director, Mrs. Smith pointed to the interest which the club has evidAnced in all the mu sical enterprises of the local public school system, especially in the splendid work of this group of young voices. The choir sang the following program, which Mr. Umfleet introduced by comments touching the choice of the selections, the marnei in which the children were taught to sing them, and the relation of the musical forms involved to the singers' interest in the numbers: Now Let Ever; Tongue Adore Thee Bac.i lAve Maria (sung in Latin). The members of the musicale were particularly impressed by the precise phrasing and the peifect blending of the voices in the Bach chorale, which Mr. Umfleet explained had been in repertoire of the choit for four years ".pd which .1 hr children never tired of <•.- singing. ‘*Hl%d a E#rhor;’' in strict ; canon form, was impressive hy rraIson f its difficulty, and the splendid . esponse which the director received (from the children. Since much of the material available for the groups of ot very young voices is written for unison work, Mr. Umfleet explained that he has hail to arrange these nu n bers fit part singing, and has further supplemented the group’s musical !ibiary by numbers of his own composition The last two selections on the program were interesting illus trations <>f such materials "Praise it. | Nature,” representing a touch of mot!j emism, and “Praise Ye the Lord,” in- ; troducing an accompaniment of three
