AT THi; VONTASTLE
When better western thrillers are j maile, Paramount usually makes them and that rule is .very much in evidence at the Voncastlc theater today and Wednesday where “Stairs of Sand” is playing a two days run. | “Stairs of. Sand” is real, vivid dra-1 ma—rugged and virile, but not too j burly to give place to a fine-spun I web of beautiful romance. The “rough stuff” is furnished by Wallaee Beery as the clever “bad” man who gets away with his banditry but fails to get away with the heart of the girl, played by Jean Arthur. Further villiuny is provided try Fred Kohler, as the crooked boss of the little Arizona town who also loves the girl, but loses in the battle with Beery. Phillips R. Holmes, handsome new-comer to the ranks of leading juveniles, plays the part of the Eastern who arrives on the scene in time to defeat the doubtful purposes of the two villians. In the end it develops that Beery is a sympathetic villain, beneath his lough exterior, and he relinquishes his claim on the hand of the heroine in favor of Holmes. “Stairs of Sand” is a picturization j of the best-seller by Zane Grey, and ^ if you liked that novel you will like | the picture. Chester Conklin, who appears for | the first time in a film without his | renowned mustache, provides a wealth of brilliant comedy acting in j the production. In all it is a perfect I picture, intelligently acted and directed. You should not miss it.

MR. 0. H. RASH "1 cannot praise Konjola enough; it did wonders for me,” said Mr. O. H. Rash, 110 South William street. South Bend. “For many years 1 suffered from stomach and kidney troubles.
