Mrs. Yount Hostess Morning Musicale The Morning Musicale met Wednesday morning at the home of Mrs. W. I. Yount, where the hostess gave a discussion of modern German orchestral music. The music of the twentieth century, she said, can be divided into two classes—the modern, which belongs to the period up to the war; and the ultra-modem, which has developed after the war. Of the former class, Strauss, Maehler, and Rieger are three of the outstanding representatives. Among these Strauss stands foremost; hut on many contemporaneous programs Rieger’s name will he found beside his. The transition from the modern to Hie ultra-modern school came with the war, though its roots may he traced as far hack as 1912. The music of this epoch is still in a mut able, uncrystallized state. Now the nfluenee of Strauss and his school, according to Mrs. Yount, is negligi ’de. Among the chief composers of this period are Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Erdmann, Ptiessen, and Hinde mith, who have already, although they am still young, gained considerable fame in their own country and
elsewhere.
At the close of the program Mrs. Yount played records of Strauss's “Blue Danube" and Hindemith's “Trio for Violin, Viola, and Cello.”
