Half of the lessons for the year IDL’D are of a topical character. The aim of the committee seems to have been to place before the Sunday-school pupils ■ome of the great doctrine- of God’s Word, as well as teachings on practical life. I. Who Is Cur Heavenly Father: (Genesis til. 27). He Is the Almighty God who created the universe. God was before all things. "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hndst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” The universe come Into being by the will at)d act of the personal being called God. Man himself Is n creation Of God. He was created In the likeness and Image of God. God Is tlie infinite and perfect spirit In whom we Hve and move and have our being. Hl Is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent He was not only before all things, but the cause of all things. II. What the Father Does. 1. He loves us (1 John 4:9, 10). This love was expressed by sending His only begotten Son Into the world that we might live through Him. He not only loves the redeemed, but lie loves the world (John 3:10). In the very essence of His being God Is love (l John 4:8). 2. He redeemed us (1 John 4:0). He gave His only begotten Son that we might live through Him. 8. God preserves us (Ps. 103:1-14). The preserving mercy of God embraces the following gracious beneficial acts: (1) He forgives all our Iniquities (v. 8). This He Is able to do because of the righteous provision He made for sin in the atonement wrought out by Jesu* Christ. (2) Be healoth all our diseases (v. 8). Tbte healing refers to the body and soul (8) He redeemeth the life from destruction (v. 4). Redemption Implies the payment of nil demands against the debtor. (4) He sntlstleth thy mouth (v. fi). Thle means that God satisfies, nil legitimate deslres'so that youth Is renewed like the eagle's. (5) .Be executes righteousness and Judgment (vv. 0-12). The vrongs of life are righted and mnn Is thus relieved of their burdens. (fl) He pities Ills children (vv. 18, 14). The pity of nn earthly father for his children Is but a faint suggestion of the sympathetic heart of the loving God, our Father. III. Our Responsibility to the Heavenly Father (Matthew 0:24-34). Christ came to reveal the Father. The subjects of the heavenly kingdom Will love Him ns the child loves lls father. 1. He will give unto him undivided attention (v. 24). The child of God makes the unequivocal choice between the heavenly Father and the world. The word "mammon" Is n kind of personlflmtlou of worldliness. 2. Will not lie anxious about food and clothing (vv. 2V32). The child of God who knows Him as a Father will not be supremely concerned about what It shall eat or what It shall put on because anxiety Is (1) Daeless (v. 27). Regardless of what thought oi concern one exercises concerning food and clothing. It will he provided only according to His will. In Him do we live, move and have our being. God supplies all our needs (Phil. 4:19). (2) It shows distrust of the Father (vv. 28-80). In the measure that one is anxious about these needs, ho shows lack of faith In the love of God. (8) It la heathenish (v. 32). That those who are Ignorant of God should manifest anxiety is not to he won derad at, but for His children, those who knot. God ns the Father, to do so Is te play the heathen. He knows that we have need of temporal blessings. 3. Will diligently seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, (vv 88, 84). This means that he will subordinate temporal things to the things of the Spirit It does not mean that a child of God will fall to exercise proper forethought In providing for himself and family.

OF INTEREST (Continued from page one) volved, the Farm Board believes, is to establish many small industries instead of a few' large ones. Limit the size of these industries so that they will not be a serious competitor in any one line. Otherwise allow state institutions to make anything "practicable to make”, to be marketed anywhere, in fair competition with other goods of the same kind, by the state itself or by some agency set up by the state. The report then gives the situation of the agricultural industry at the farm. Because of poor land it was necessary to buy last year nearly ihree times as much farm produce as was raised on the farm. If agriculture is to he the only industry of the institution which is not under fire from some quarter, then more land should be provided. What they need is k -od bottom land within trucking distance of the institution. The report ends with a sentiment, with which, we are sure most people of the state will agree, as follows: “We are proud of the record this institution has made, not only in going so far in earning its own maintenance and in reclaiming worn out land, hut also of its record in reclaiming poor human derelicts who are committed to its care. To see a man who comes here, shattered from indulgence in drink or drugs, go out after ninety days of wholesome labor, clean, hard and fit, convinces one that the Indiana State Farm is a great asset to the State of Indiana.” A copy of the report may be had as soon as printed by applying to Superintendent Ralph Howard, Indiana State Farm, Greencastle, Ind. The total number of prisoners committed during the year was 5623. Of this number 5046 were sent for “crimes against public order,” 548 for "crimes against person” and only 2!) for "crimes against property.” About 22'/f of all prisoners committed were colored men, about iMr# Mexican or Indian and the remainder native or European bom white. Less than one-half the men sent to the farm during the year were born in Indiana. About 9'/( of the men committed nev<ir went to school, 36% have attended school below the eight grade, 36'y finished the eighth grade only, slightly over 10% attended high -thool below the fourth year' and ordy about 4'- finished high school. 69 men out of the 5623 committed attended a college or university. Concerning the increase in numbers it is interesting to note that the three causes, "driving while intoxicated,” ‘intoxication” and “violation of the liquor law,” accounts for 53 1-3% of ’.he commitments. This however is not so large a percentage as last year when the above causes accounted for

58»/i%.

Considering the fact that many prisoners enter the tarm broken in health from indulgence in ha i habits, the health of the prisoners has been remarkable, as only about eight men per day pe (thousand prisoners have been away from work on account of sickness. Although the doctor ha.« prescribed for those reporting for treatment, a total of 48,600 times luting the year, only twenty deaths have occurred, three of which were accidental.

WILEY 41; TIGER CUBS 28. Oh Greencastle, where is thy standing in state basket hall now 7 —o— Well, everybody played hut the water boy and he didn’t have a suit! Bailsman used ten players and the Terre Haute coach used nine men during the game. —o— Was Wiley “hot” on baskets? Were they?—oh boy, and how! The Terre Haute coach told Supt. Warren J. Yount after the game that his boys certainly had a lucky streak, especially during the first half. Call it lucky if you want to, hut when a man has plenty of time to get set before shooting at the hoop he ought to make at least 40 per cent of his shots if he has any basket eye at all. —o— Greencastle’s defense was even worse last night than it was during the Brazil tilt. We wonder why somebody didn’t try to bother the Wiley Imckguard when he was agitating the net with monotonous regularity? Frisz is about the best shot on the Terre Haute squad and the Cubs let him have all the time he wanted before he let lly for the basket. Something wrong somewhere.

Two defeats in one week. Pretty tough medicine after the locals had been rated in many Big Ten lists by sport fans over Indiana. —o— Of course, the Purple and Grav net tossers were handicapped by the losof Tobin, flashy floor guard, who was declared ineligible about three hours before game time. But even at that, the Cubs should have fought all the harder. Raymond Brown, running mute of Tobin, did his best to make up for his teammate’s absence from the lineup and we want to congratulate him on his splendid playing. —o— "Stretch” Ellis, sub center, and Freddie Masten, sub forward, also deserve credit for the showing they (made against Wiley during the last ] eight minutes of the game. —o— Ellis got the tip-off half of the time ami Masten made 7 points for the Cubs. —o— The rest of the hoys apparently tried but they just seemed unable to get any place. —o— We honestly thought Groeneastlc’s defense was terrible and o did a lot of other fans in the business district. —o— A mimhcr of people declared (his morning that the Cubs need considerable more practice and we heartily agree wilh (hem. —o— You know when a team begins to lose, it makes it plenty tough, not only the coach, the players and the fans hut also on us poor sport columnists. Come on Greencastle, let’s get going again! The curtain raiser between the Junior Culis and the Wiley Seconds was an interesting fray, hut even the little Cubs had to lose. —o— It was the worst defeat hanilcil the Cubs so far this season. —o— It was also the first game this

winter that the locals have not scored more than 30 points. —o— It was awful! —o— Martinsville dashed to a 37 to 35 vicetory over Franklin on Franklin’s door. “Fuzzy" Vandiver’s net snipers put up a great battle, however, and the outcome was in doubt until the final gun. The half score was Martinsville 21); Franklin 16. Frankfort nearly upset the old dope bucket but Muncie managed to win, 40 to 89. The Bearcats found the Casemen prepared for them and they had to call on all the basket liall -kill that brought them the state championship last spring to nose out Frankfort. Muncie led 22 to 16 at the intermission. —o— Although Vincennes led, 19 to 18 at the half, Bedford’s Stone Cutters were able to chop their way to a 43 to 33 victory over tlie Alices. —o— Greensburg, coached by Frank Pruitt, former Bainhridge mentor, downed Rushville 31 to 29. The Lions were out in front, 15 to 12 at the end of the first twenty minutes hut a 3 point lend didn't bother the Pirates. —o— Bainhridge found Edinburgh a formidable foe last night. Edinburgh defeated the Notth Putnam squad, 38 to 30 in an interesting battle. The winners led I!) to 12 at the end of the opening period. Morris and Cowger were the stars for Bainhridge. —o— Fillmore met New Winchester on Danville’s hardwood court Friday evening and won, 26 to 1!) due to the spectacular playing of Watson. The East Putnam boys led New Winchester, 13 to 11 at the half. AND THE NEXT DAY IT RAINED. If you see a member of the Ciawfordsville high school basketball team walking around the streets with a broad grin on his face, think nothing

86 to 31 defeat of Greencastle Wednes day night. Conch Craver’s cagers yesterday ripped through a hard workout and looked more impressive than at any time this year. Brazil’s triumph over Greencastle and the knowledge that they are to have a crack at Brazil Saturday night appeared to have inspired the local preppers. Greencastle nosed out locals 38 to 36 several weeks ago, and a victory over its conquerors would seem sweet to the locals.— Crawfordsville Review. —o— After losing to Brazil 35 to 31 in the dedication game at Brazil’s new gymnasium Wednesday night, Coach Baus man’s Greencastle outfit will entertain Wiley high school of Terre Haute tonight. Greencastle has a fast little team but the boys from Hiazil seem to have them jinxed.—Bedford Daily Mail.
