| Mayor James D. Carpenter presided 'at the dedicatory program. Invocation | was offered by Rev. S. S. Aikman. j Remarks weie made by Mayor Carpenter, representing the civil city; William E. Carpenter, for the schocd city: M. K. Decker, for the Alumni, and George H. James, who represented the citizens at large. —o— Arthur I.. Treater, permanent seeretary of the Indiana High School Vlhletie Xssoeiation, was also present ai d spoke briefly, urging good sportsmanship.

The Brazil high school hand gave a short concert and the junior high f school girls participated in two Indian T club drills between the halves of eaeh

brazil 35; greencastle, si. —o— It's a sad tale to tell the t aptaint —0*— • Greencastle's air-tight defense had several punctuies in it last night. The Tiger Cubs mis-e.i easy shots ;,t the luisket while Brazil was either I “hot” or they are getting plenty good on dropping the hall through the hoop. —o— We really haven’t any alibis for the j locals, although many Brazil fans sill agree with us when we say the Cubs ’didn’t ploy the game they are capable

game. —o— It was indeed a great night for Brazil, hut it was also a big night for Grei Drastic when our new gym was dedicated—the Cubs heal Brazil’s setters hy 1 point that night. —o— And to top it all off, Old Dame Misfortune, ruled that Del'auw should how to Illinois Wesleyan by a 20 to 15 count, Wednesday evening. —o— This battle took place at Bloomington, Illinois, and came as a climax to the crushing defeat handed the Tigi i by I’urdue on Tuesday night. —o— WILEY FRIDAY! —o— The strong Wiley net team from Tcne Haute will form the opposition

decision. But of course, the refeijee is' Cot the Tiger Cubs tomorrow on the

the “High Mogul” on the ba.-ket hall floor so there you are or what have

you.

—o— Evan Crawley played the most consistent game for the Cubs, lobin and Brown n rtainly did not dolixeu the brand of ball they did against l*rinceton last Saturday. Gene Crawley fought hard hut it didn’t seem like he could get going and the ball just wouldn't go through the net for him. —o— Hammerstein and k iigiiu, are good bets for positions on the nll-W abash Valley this season. Those two Imys are clever on the floor and they have exceptional eyes for the basket. The score at the half was 17 to 14 in favot of Baustnan’s proteges.. This total by no means indicates the under basket and other kinds of shots mi-sed by Greencastle in the opening period. Greencastle’s playing was ragged. There is no denying that. - — O Hi. Brazil team under Coach Raleigh Phillips is showing vast improvement in every game. We remember last veor when Klwood nosed out the t uhs that it was due principally to the Strategy of Phillips who was couching the northern squad at that time. Despite the fact that Brazil won last night we still believe the Tiger Cubs are the better team. Maybe we can prove this on the night of February 1, When the Clay county boyplay a return tilt here. Bausman’s second team could have done us well as the first five against the Brazilians, the way the Purple and Gray regulars were playing lust night. —o— Brazil is happy. The dedication of their splendid new gym is a complete uccess. Victory over Greencastle is second to none, with the exception of winning the state tournament, to the Brazil team and fans. , * 0 —o — The local Juniors made it a 5050 night, anyway. The little Cubs administered a sound beating to the Brazil Juniors, 17 to ti. —o— The Tiger Cubs could have used the defensive tactics of the Junior Cubs lo great advantage against the Brazil regulars. —o— The new Brazil playing floor was a- slick as glass during the curtain raiser due to an oil preparation put down to clean the bar Iwood court. The Juniors had considerable difficulty in keeping on their feet during the fitst half of their game. —o— Finally saw dust was secured and rubbed over the playing floor with mops. This helped but at times the players had trouble standing up during the big game. —o— We take this opportunity to compliment Brazil on its new high school gymnasium. It is a building to b* proud of and will prove adequate for many years to come. And Brazil hucertainly needed and waited a long lime for this beautiful structure. —o— Hundreds of Greencastle fans attended the dedication. More than 15<i went in -pecial interurban cars and there were at least that many automobiles filled with rooters who made the trip to the Clay county sat.

- O

Greencastle people were scattered all over the gym and that made it im possible for Bob Bohard and I-eota Mullins to lea I the G. H. S. songs and yells. Perhaps, next year when we g. down to Brazil, the Greencastle delegation will have a section of -eats to i 2* thcr.

W iley has a big, rangy squad and (hey have been going plenty good this winter. Watch out for them, Green-

castle! —o—

Hun ired- of citizens called the Banner office for leports on the Brazil game last night. It was midnight before the office was closed, due to the late start on account of the gym dedication program, but apparently nobody went to bed until the final core was obtained. Perhaps, many of them wished they had turned in earlier.

—o—

Frank Jarrell, principal of the Reelsville high school, sends us a postal card in which he states an invitational tourney will he held at Reelsville on Saturday. Basket hall teams taking part are: Gosport, Stilesville, Bowling Gieen and Reelsville. The first game wall he called at 2 p. m., the second game at 3 o’clock and the final tilt at 8 p. m.
