Mrs. Nichols I alks Of Girl Scout l ife.
The parent of the girl scouts weie entertaiie ■! Wetlnesday evening at the Methodist Church with a dinner and program put on by tin scout-. There were 1.30 present, including the parents and the scouts. The tables weie decorated in colors of pink and vv ite, and the dinner which ha I bei n prepared in the homes was served buffet style. At the beginning of the dinner, the .-eouts sang their scout grace. During the evening the program, which consisted of -cout formation, a farce presented by members of the troop arid a number of scout songs, which were given around an improvised camp tire, and tne international Morse ci de of signaling were enjoyed by the parents of the scouts, and gave them an opportunity to see the work which i- donee by the troops. During the dinner, Mrs. E. B. Nichols, who is chaiiman of the Century C lub Scout Committee, talked inti ri -tingly and at length on the general oi ganization of the scouts, and of tie work which they do. Mrs. Nichols . tated that ir 30 countries other than the I'nited States, that scout troops vmic in organization, and that in our own nation 7,t>21 troops are register- < d at the national headquarters in New York The Greencastle troops
have fiK members.
Mrs. N’i hols dealt with the fact tha f the eiris enjoy the work and j tnat in making games from w. ik,| and in the playing of them, that they I learn many thing- which they put to u-i in the homes, and which in time make good citizens of them. The importance of the love of outdoor life, which girl scouting fosters, was stressed, and Mrs. Nichols showed how this is accentuated by the hikes, picnics and the various activities of > ut-door life. The various tests which scouts are required to meet for degrees are all practical and the gill gains desirable information
in this manner.
The local troop of girl scouts was l organized 7 years ago, and since that time has grown steadily in mem bership and interest. The scouts are sponsored by the Century Club of ' this city, and Mrs. J. 1’. Frew is leader. Mils Helen Richards, Miss Ruth Curtis and Miss Nellie McCullough, of DePauw University a-sist
