It was believed by members of the sheriff's searching party, which found the stiewn wreckage late Sunday, that the craft had struck the canyon side with a tremendous force and that the heavy load of gasoline ex-
ploded with the impact.
The open parachutes of the pil< t and the pa-senger indicated that th" pair, realizing their plight too late, 'had made an effort to jump. Their landing flares had also been relea "d. J. B. Tomlinson, manager of the Storm Cloud mines wa the only 1 ye witness of the crash. He said he heard the plane 1 "me down through the canyon sputtering a- if the motor , was failing, and after it had .-( raped the tree tops for a distance, crashed. He said a loud explosion immediately followed the crash. The rugged character of the terrian did not enable - searchers to reach the scene of the tragedy until late yesterday when a 20-yeurlnld youth, Frank Shields, found the scattered remains of the
proud cross-continent
plane.
Only the fact that the rocks were plowed away at the p t where the plane hit enabled the . a rebels to fix the exact location of the crash, for ports of the craft were scattered for more than a quarter of a mile along
the mountain side.

To the Voters ot the Fitth District To those who may have received my lishing- eamj) picture in tlie attitude of smokingacob announcing my candidacy for congress, and supporting same with a few garbled sentences a prohibition, l desire to say that I had nothing whatever to do with sending them out. Tneyuj sent out by my distinguished opponent, the present congressman, and were intended and insult you. Instead they belittle the sender. The same trick was played two yearsagm my mind it is the most contemptable, low down piece of cheap politics ever stooped to by a ei! date for congress. The worst 1 have said about prohibition is as follows: “Personally I have no malice toward anyone, yet, “I hate every evil by Hanley assailed; “I hate prohibition because it has failed. “I hate its corruption, dishonor, and gin. ‘ That work hand in band with the party that’s in. “I hate the deception, the friendships abused, “They use to ensnare—entrap the accused. “I hate tlie red letter of shame that they write, “()n the brow of our youth somewhere every night. “I hate personal ‘wets’, and political ‘drys’, “And the cowardly cuss who straddles and sighs.” The lack of law enforcement we are confronting today in the nation, in the state, and in Fifth congressional district seemingly has its origin in the failure of the government to enf federal prohibition. In other words, the apparent willingness of the present administration' low the Volstead law and the eighteenth amendment to the constitution of the United Suit he used as political footballs has created and cult ivated a lack of respect for law and consti authority which is affecting our government and our society from the highest to the element. I have said that any congressman, who is not obligated otherwise, can command resped the federal laws in the Fifth congressional district, and 1 pledge myself that if elected to gress I will erase from the Fifth congressional district the black stain of political corruption, luck of law enforcement. America must be redeemed. We are drubbed tlie “land of laws and lawlessness.’ " creai mg w omanhood and manhood lor jails and prisons, and we are creating jails and P■ i^ womanhood and manhood. We seem to re joice i n dcmanding more law to enforce and r *. allies to inflict. Our womanhood and manhood should be bu ilders of homes, schools and churches, and homes, schools and churches should he builders ot womanhood and manhood. I appeal to the sovereign people.
