A Strange Disease Doctors Don’t Understand There is a curious disease that attacks Mr. and Mrs. Homekeeper about this time of the month, called "Credit Headache." All of their fmery won’t drive away the symptoms —worried eyes and dreary I,net ■about the mouth. May we suggest that paring cash is the best remedy for this ill, and a J. C. Penney Company store is a fine place to begin.

Slirrir*; Film Of The War ‘ MademoiselV • from Armentierf*

tht> M.-tro-Coli' wyn-.Mtiyi r, production winch comes 'to the Voncastle Theatre

Wednesday 'only, is an ex-service man film in me re ways than one. It not only lecal is memories hut they are memories recalled by fellows who knew Ur • real ttuth about the war. Ililm provides stirring pictures °f U.e hoys at the front, their optim■s 1 " k>n the march, the humors of life hi billets, their simple love affairs, ■*0,1 the stark realism of the trenches <>nd bi-j and little guns, tanks and (.emplanes huilitm death across the

] lines.

There are moments of jolly irood fun that will recall to old soldiers memories of the lighter side of the war, but there are also moments of vreat poignancy and deepest pathos, notably in the comradship of the men and especially the insident of the old soldier and the raw recruit pa-sing through his baptism of fire to the tune of “Old Soldiers Never Die.” Above all, these things have been blended into a most satisfying and romantically intriguing story. Estelle Brody i- very fascinating and natural as Mademoiselle. John Stuart makes an ideal soldier lover, while Alf (io ldard is a picture of good humor in all sorts of situations, and Humberston Wright and John Hamilton are magnificant as the old soldier and the young solidei respecively.

AT THK (.KANAKA Sophisticated New York’s inner secrets are bared in “Stocks and Blondes," and I- Hi) special directed by Dudley Murphy, which is to tie the next attraction at the (Iranada Wednesday and Thursday, it is a roaring comedy with a dramatic kick. How tired business men rest., how wallets flatten, how the blonde entertainers keep their cars in gas are some of the gay doings shown again t Q background of lively jazz. There is tense drama in the big trading rooms ot stock brokers and on the floor of the Exchange when fortunes and hopes hang in the balance. There is a fascinating love story, too, about a bey who works in a broket’s office and a girl entertainer in a night club who can’t dig gold ctudely because she ha- principles. There are four principal members of the cast. Gertrude Astor, one of the best known comediennes on the screen appears as a gold-digging blonde of the night clubs. Jacqueline Logan, famous leading woman, is an entertainer, but is restrained from the crude systems of -ome of her associate- by her love foi a young man. POPl I. tTION I Ml id v8E8 CONNKRSVILLE, Oct. 1 (UP)— Recent predictions that Connersville’s population would be increased by 5,iidO within two year appeared conservative today, with the announcement by William Davis, who operates a fleet of moving vans, that his moving concern had transferred the household goods of 80 families to this city 1 within the past three weeks. Proof that the population is increasing here is given by the fact that nearly every one of the more than a hundred houses refiorte i vacant lu-t spring me now occupied. Davi- said mo.-t of the new families were moved from Kentucky and Cincinnati. o——— TDD COLD FOR SCHOOL NFW MARKKT, Ind., Oct. 1. (UP) — School children are enjoying an extended “summer vacation" from school because of cold weather and lack of heat in the building. The furnace of the school is intricate in design and ha- never been inspected or connected up with the electric motors For this reason it cannot lie fired.
