A feat ile of tha Guide that motor-i-ts ai rnt l appreciate is that 'ill itiueiarie are n arianged as t.o alloy for a logi.al topping place at ta.' end of each d iy\. un, where aicommo ation. for the night in a good hotel may be f, cm Doth the National and State Highway numbering stem ace .-hown on the maps, and in the routes. Then* is also a di-ge-i i ' all the -lute motor laws, speed |, --; fiction-, licrn-e regulations, ferry hedules, . well a.- numerous maphow ing a \v to enter, leave or avoid

them.

Among tla tour with laige maps in the Guide are: Adirondack, Canadian I'acil . Cape Cod, Capitol, Dixie, Gianile State, Maine, Mid-West,

have already begun to gather. Chairman William M. Duller and his assistant- have already oeen here for some days and each train is bringing

new anivals.

Contml H. Mann, chairman of th' Kansas City Convention delegation rank- with Chairman P>utler as one oi the big figures of the affair. Mann has plenty of business of his own, but in a fine, cbaracteristie, western way he ha.- thiown it all over. He is the one person responsible for the convention coming to Kaai-as City, and at the time he won front Sun Francisco he proinisod he would make good. He has yet to make his fiist slip. Conrad Mann is the first up in the morning and the last down at

night, lie has no let up-.

By virtue of his position, he is entitled to sit in dignity and glory behind t» roll-top desk in a .-uite of office.- and issue orders. That, however, is not his way. He does things himself. Aie delegates preplexed oxer their <|uatl r.-? Mann jumps up and doe- not nuit until he settles their problems. Il is a case of newspaper men uncertain what is going to happen to them? Maim is on the job. Whether the problem is one of supply ing telephones for leporters, or kleig lights for the movie men he is there all the time. The Easterners are frank ly amazed at the energy which he

gives to it all.

The friendship which has developed between Mann and Chairman Dutler is one of the most interesting develop ments of the whole affair. Mann is enthu-lastie, electric; Dutler is .. served, taciturn, but they fit like old gloves on one another. It is really a competition—a fine, gem rous one be tween the two men as to who will do the most to make the convention u

succe-s.

This is going to be a real convention. There is no mistaking the signs and omens. When the Republicans met in 1921 they knew in advance what was going to happen; the only problem they had to face was the selection of a nominee for Vice President. This time they are all starting from cratch. There i.- battle on contesting delegations, a battle on
