FAMOUS LONDON DERBY LONDON, June 6. (UP)—Until mid-afternoon today England and a grejt part of the rest of the world will have hopes of increasing their income. Sportsmen by thousands were on their way to the race course at Epson to witness the Derby. In London trains were packed with ! ace-going enthusiasts. Thosje who have had to remain behind in city office might a- well have been given the morning off, for all the work they will : ecomplish until some time after the excitement of betting is

over.

It is safe to say that almost every wagering inhabitant of the British "inpire who could afford it has lilac* ed, directly or indirectly, a bet of some kind on the Derby. A great many of those who did not have the amount of a bet available, borrowed

or begged it.

Unlike many other important racing event.-, the Derby is one in which even the poorest of beggers can have an intere.-t, no matter how small. This is because of the numerous sweepstakes which are organized on

the strength of the event.

The best known among these “sweeps,” as they are commonly re ferred to are the “Stock Exchange Sweep” and the “Calcutta Sweep.”
