—o— • ORA LADY IS INVOLVED
—»—
According To Brazil Times, Local Man Made Escape While Police Chief Waited For Him.
—o—
Brazil lost about seven in population Saturday and Greencastle receiv-1 ed a corresponding influx in papula- \ tion when a family of Greencastle'-[ ”400” who recently moved to this city, left hurriedly on the advice of the: police and returned to their former!
stamping grounds.
In the party were Mrs. Dora Smith) ami her daughter, Mrs. Maude Sim-
merman and her five children. A Ju-! th? usp of an >' kind of firearms withvenile court case involving two girls | n , ^' p c '^ limits, a.- result of the r who had rooms in the house on east b,, ' a ! < ' n ft °f several wndows and the i,,,, ,, ,
Ridge street occupied by .Mrs. Smitli and jiarty, attracted attention to the
Greencastle outfit.
Chief of Police Fulk made an vestigation and diseov- red Hki'. a man giving the name of O t i m!..—who, according to repute, i a ludj hy no means—but a vault ek aner of Greencastle—has been staying at th 1 house as a companion to Mrs. Simmennan. Mrs. Simmerman, who i- a widow, and her four children, nn>\ d to Brazil a couple of months ago when things became uncomfortable in Greencastle. Lady is said have made frequent trips here and remained bver the week-end and is said to be the father of Mrs. Simmerman’s latest addition to her family—a baby about five weeks old— according to information obtained by the police. When Chief Fulk culled at the house a few days ago to interview f Lady the latter was eating supper ini the kitchen and came out in the sit- j ting room to talk to the officer. When; Fulk told Lady that he wanted him j to come to headquarters to explain the conditions under which they wenliving. Lady excused himself for a few minutes to finish eating his supper, remarking, “I guest you won’t object to me finishing my meal.”, Chief Fulk rc ponded, “Oh, no”, and tried to keep an eye on Lady when; he returned to the kitchen hut fear lent speed to Lady’s plans and wings , to his feet and befote the officer rea-1 lized it Lady did a Houdini and the kitchen was empty. Lady decamped without his coat and hat and Chief Fulk took po; -ession of them and is holding them as hostages for Lady’s,
return.
Charges of adultery were to have I been preferred agailist Lady and Mrs. Simmerman hut when Lady disappeared Chief Fulk accepted the of-! fer of the'woman to leave town.) While Lady is said to have moved the family from Greencastle here he was not on hand this morning to move them back and they were fore-1 ed to walk out of town. Mrs. Simmer-1 man told Chief Fulk that they had | had nothing to eat since Friday morn-j ing and the officer gave them some money to buy food.—Brazil Times. |
