North Locust, East Columbia and | Liberty streets, being a part of the I old plat of the city, have long lum- , bered under the cover of a heavy I load. Forty-five years ago, the end iof Locust street was Franklin street, I where a pair of bars leading into the j pasture off of Franklin made the j entrance. At that time the removing of the bar.-, and the opening of north Locust was an exciting time of discussion. The question was not only discussed in the city council, hut extended throughout the business section of the city. Road building those days had not dawned its swadling clothes. And the expense of opening up Locust street, and grading it to its northern terminal was looked upon as a lug expensive undertaking. It was warmly discussed in the council, and on the streets both pro and con. The proes argued that north Lo-1 cust street would soon improve and ! make a nice residence street. The
