NEW YORK. June 4. (UP)—Batting and punching with a devastating force. Joe Dundee of Baltimore won the world’s welterweight championship here last night, in a 16-round decision over Pale Latzo, a chunkv little hoy from the coal belt of Pen-n-ylvania. The score as recorded hy the officials was two for Dundee and a draw voted hy Harold Barnes, the second judge. But the unofficial vote in the pre-s section was four rounds for Latzo, nine for Dundee and two even. The two which were voted even were a compliment to the champion. The United Press tabulation, for l.atz.o—the first, second, eighth, and the twelfth rounds, for Dundee the fourth, fifth, sixth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth. , The j bird and evonth toutnl were scored as even. Latzo started fast and scored over Dundee who is known to he a slow starter. Dundee got going in the third and fourth. In the fifth l.atzo’s 1 seconds were feeding him from a bottle of aromatic xpirits. From then on Latzo became weaker and weaker, and in the eleventh round Duniee landed a punch to the stomach o hard that Latzo said audibly: “Oh. 3h," and before he came off the ropes lundee opened his left eye with a right hand punch. In the fourteenth Dundee pounded efts and rights lo the body. As they came out for the fifteenth round, Dundee said: “Gome on, Pete, let’s go." Pete tried to go. hut he wasn’t able and was knocked all over th.‘ ring. . i n

Old Tens Kildsra had aawa for bar. IdBimeU tfurUMigh had decided to quit bis Job oa the morrow. He was xolug lots business with one of ths members et the West Side Club. Tkere was lots of money to he made lu lu Some king of trucking work It wss end Emmett was to learu to drive e truck. He would be a big man •oon. Old Torn declared. But Murtougb hud not told all the truth about tbs trucking bustieee. True he would learn to drive g truck, hut for the present he would be a guard, armed end ready to shoot to kill. It nsed he, because the loads la the covered vans he would ride were llquer. Emmett bad drifted Into a gaug of bootleggers headed hy Maunlt docker, docker’s craw had long been the bane of the P>c«t prohibition agents, but with graft and political pull he had tmuiaged to pursue his biialness practically unmolested. He had assured Murtough that there was no danger but that the men eti the truck had te be prepared for say emergency. Thle Murtough had not told Kildare. Sheila made little oomwient Bhe was filled with thoughts of the glorious sight ehe had spent and Emmett's veaturs did ast arouse much Interest. She only asked her UUiat U tbs work would he steady.,
Klldnrt t;Id her that It was a Oust* nes» dirt d*d not require all of U’urtougb' ''.me. that be would work only two or three nights a wevk and he would make from fifty to ect, hundred dollars a night deyrndluf upon the Isugtn of the

It gave him more time to loaf about the Club end, of course, there wss plenty to drink all for the taking. Some weeks he fas paid u« much as $100 but the money did him no good. He was Invited Into card games aud he felt he could not refuse because they were members of the Club aud members of Clocksr’s gang. Always he lost, for he know uothlui, of cards or gambling Ke learned to drive au automobile and was detailed to hie own truck with another gunman as guord. frequently a pilot car. • blgu powered roadster accompanied the truck. It was Emmett's business to keep the pilot car always In sight. Never must he let ths red tail-llghte pass out of his vision. Murtough bad accomplished a dozen trips both as guard and aa driver aud had had no difficulty. Once only was he stopped but It was by a local constable aud a teu dollar bill freed bim of the possible ticket for speeding. 'Ihe officer did not suspei t that the van was loaded with contraband liqnor. He saw less aud less of Shelia nowadays. Aud. Sheila was just as happy. Evenings when Murtough did drop lu there was always argumeut about her marriage to Emmett and slurs cast at ths absent Kory. The effect of Murtough's money making "business" was creating more discontent la tbe heart of Old Tom Kildare. The meagre wages be earned working for Tim O'Shea goaded his pride ami he raged at fortune which permitted Emmett to succeed at what the old man believed wao a legitimate Job. One night be returned home and announced that be had quit O'Shea. He would not he doing tbe dirty work of a laborer any longer, he declared, and It was now up to Shelia to marry Mur-
