NEW ORLEANS, La., May 13. (UP) -Water -eeped througli honeycomb openings in dikes along Bayou Di - daises today as workers redoubled efforts to repair the small break.- and avert a major flood in Louisiana Sugar valley. None of the dozen small levee op oning - along the Bayou was beyond e ntrel and hope was still held for aving the 13 south central Parishes of the slate from inundation despite prediction of engineers that the river walls could not stand the crest of th*>
flood.
But a 'ineliension of river farmers below the Bayou lias increased and many of those who announced their inlt ntion of staying in their homes and d' fying the Hood have moved out. National Guardsmen reported an entire half mile section of the lexec near Simmesport wa- honeycombed A company of troops was attempting to repair the levee there. Break in the Des daises levee would flood (io.OOO acres of cultivated land, engineers declared. Two other danger areas are to be contended with in lower Louisiana, however. The most serious is lex'ee f the Old river, east of Des Clai-es, j where the crest of the flood will be apparent this week and next. Failure of the river wall to hold here would mean inundation of 20,000 farms between the Mississippi and the Atclrifalava river. The other danger area i along the east bank of the Mississippi from Baton Rouge -outh to New Orleans. Honey combing in levees was reported in that section.
