MOTHER’S DAY

“UNCLE JOE’’ CELEBRATES DANVILLE, 111., May 7—“Uncle Joe” Cannon, patriarch of American politics, celebrated his ftighhy-eighth birthday anniversary here today. There was little departure from Uncle Joe’s regular program. He vetoed a town celebration, j “No use making all that fuss,’’ Mr. ' Cannon said when the matter was broached to him. | So he was up today at his usual early hour; had a slim breakfast; clamped a rather short pudgy cigar between his teeth, he abandoned the long famous stogies, and took a short automobile ride. ! Cannon is in good health, although I he lacks the vigor of his last days in congress.
