The first repair on the Harrison mansion at Vincennes will be restoring the floor of the Vigo room above the council chamber^ which has dropped four inches because of the fact that a wooen pih which fastened a beam and support in roof had been removed by some traveler who had taken the pin as a relic. Only last year the contractors replaced quite a number of pins to take the place of those removed by vandals. There was a drop in the attic of nine inches The ceiling in the council chamber shows a drop of four inches. The contractors are busily engaged now in the work of restoration. The floor will be einforced with an iron stirrup and while this work is being done, the past ition which has been placed by owners since Harrison’s time will also be removed, giving the original i spacious room almost the same sie j of the handsome council chamber. On ! removing the floor to examine the ; state of the partition to be removed, it was found that worms have eaten one end of a beam. This will be treated with a spray recommended by the government. The original fireplaces which have been modernized into grates by owners since the time of Harrison, will be restored and the old fashioned log fires may again be seen on special occasions. Plastering around the entrance door to the colonial hallway will be restored and patching in the places where the drop in the floor has caused injury to the ceiling in the council chamber will be done.
