Robert Bracken, State Auditor, in a dissenting statement, said the company was getting the land, valued at from $50 to >100 an acre too cheaply. The company replied that, in addition to all costs so far paid, the company faces additional assessments of about $10,930.

the opposing faction was probably fatally wounded, and Mrs. Clark’s son and daughter were wounded in a gun battle today on the streets of
Palmetto.
A version of the shooting which reached here from Opelousas, La., near Palmetto was that Mrs. Clark, accompanied by her daughter, met Meyer on the street and accused him of having brought a relative from Texas to vote for her opponent. Before this vote was cast, it was charged, the balloting had resulted in a tie. After a brief exchange of words firing began and Meyer fell imme-
diately.

BERLIN, Feb. 7—The German gov- j ernmant did its best today to convince every one concerned that no illwill towards the United States was intended by the flag incident at the embassy in Washington, where the German emblem was not at first displayed at half mast in honor of Woodrow Wilson. “It was a plain ‘boner’ ” one heard on every side today. Government officials make Ambas- ! sador Wiedfeldt the “goat,” but for- | eign office spokesmen merely shrug i their shoulders when asked if the I minister to Washington will resign i or be recalled.
