Messrs Editors, I wish to ask which has the preference, public business for the citizens, or private business of a certain few. It seems very strange indeed* that we cannot have a room to meet in oncc a month, without being disturbed. If the council has not the power to grant it for our benefit, Wf ask of the citizens of this place to do something for us—air we ask5"is,- 'for the people to do their duty and we will do ours. It is well known'I "'every one that there has been grbat efforts made to g§t a company of older men, but fiaited'in, every attempt. If ,we are youog and nothing but boys, we' are not to be trampled under foot. One thing more, if the people of this city want afire company, they inust expect
to do something forthem. ^Jtfe want anew Engine House, so that we can keep our Bngne clean, and we also want a place to meet, to transact the necessary business connected with a company of this kind.^We do not wish ,to be troublesome nor hard to please.^^e ask nothing more than justice J^fid that we will'have or we will disband. Now, Messrs Editors, we think that we have not been dealt with as we deserve. Whenever duty called, we obeyed, and if we do all we can, the good citizens should not blame us for for not doing more, so long as there is none to take our place to perform the labor we expect to do when called on We do not wish to make unnecessary complaints, but this time we think we are justifiable in so doing. What think you good citizens? The above wo submit to you for your consideration.

The seven-spoked wheel of the omnibus that carries us all so silently along, has turned around once more. This is the night when the weary cease from their labor, when the thoughts of young folks revert to the homes they have left, and the$opd*houserkeeper having Hps is'ned tip her work betimes, welcome! her husband-—(the home-band, as the word denotes.) The little ones cluster around, climb his knees to share the envied kiss and enjoy the affection, which, unlike grosser riches, springs up more plentifully in proportion as it is freely given away. To-night, upon the wide lakes and the far ocean, Sailors and travelers will think of "honv matters," and toast "sweethearts and wives."
