ARRIVAL OF THE STEAMER.

NKW YORK* August 28.'—The Canada has arrived at Halifax We have intelligence by her that Sweaborg was destroyed by the Allies on the 11th.

Liprandi had attacked the Tchernaya lines, but it was reported, was repulsed by the French and Sardinians with a loss of 5,000 men.

The Canada brings intelligence of the bombardment of Sweaborg continuously from the 9th to tlie 11th.

Sweaborg is reported to have been destroyed by the Allied fleets, with a trifling loss to the Allies, but an immense destruction of property to the Russians.

After the bombardment, the fleets returned on the 13th inst., to Morgen. The Russian fleet at Sweaborg was not touched.

Importent news from the Crimea. Early on the morning of the 16th, the Russian army, under Gen. Liprandi, attacked the lines of the Tchernaya.

The battle lasted three hours, when -the Russians were repelled by the French and Sardinians, with a reported loss of 5000, and 400 prisoners.

Denmark is reported to have sent a Commissioner to France to ask advice •against the United Statea respecting the Sound duty. •Victoria was visiting Napoleon.

The latest from the Crimea is a dispatch from Glen. Simpson, who telegraphs that the bombardment would reopen on the 17th. if

HALIFAX, August 29.—The Cunard Steamship Canada, from Liverpool, with dates to the 18th inst., armed here at four o'clock this morning.

At Sweaborg, an immense conflagration destroyed the store-houses, magazines and the arsenal.

Th^ powder magatzine stn'd stores of projectiles were also blown up. The enemies loss is enormous. There is nothing said in either the English or French Admiral's dispatches, about the Russian ships at Sweaborg.- The Allies lost no lites two officers and thirty men of the English were wounded

The battle of Tchernaya commenced on the 16th and lasted three hours. The Russians were 50,000 strong The. Sardinians fought bravely^ .^The loss of the Allies was small.

The Rnssians were in full retreat when the French reserve came up. Omar Pasha had received orders to return to the Crimea instead of Asia.

A despatch from St. Petersburg says Gortschakofl* has orders to sink the Russian fleet if Sevastopol falls.

The London Morning Post, a Ministerial paper, says: It has reason to expect tiring and hitherto,, unexpected news from the Crimea.

Denmark.

It is reported that the Danish Admiral Zourier has gone to Paris, to ask advice and assistance of France touching their difficulties with America, concern ing the Sound duties. Denmark fears that the U. S. will commence hostilities by taking possession of the Danish West India Islands.

It is reported that the Commissariat of Southern Russia has declared it impossible to provision more men than are now in the Primea, and, consequently, no further reinforcements will bo sent.

India.

Tbe overland mail has arrived, bringing dates to July 4th. It is rumored that Persia is still intriguing with Russia and that the British force in India will be sent to the Persian Gulf. Affairs in India are tranquil. VERY LATEST BY THE CANADA.
