Michael was introduced to the pros-• ence of Esq. Duy, who considered that Murphy should pay the County of Vigo, or City of Terre-Haute, $5, for his liberality, and upon failure to pay— handed him over to the tender mercies of Burnett.

All within our housd was soon sensible of the presence of some dream dispelling influence, and as song after song arose in strains that would have drawn not only the denizens and firs of the mountains, but the mouutains themselves, we peeped forth from our casement, and saw a quartette of our young friends retiring from our window aud by the cut of their ,Coats and the Gage of their steps, we knew that to them we were indebted for the most recherche serenade, mortal was ever blessed with. THE MISSOURI COMPROMISE AND MR. CHASE—Last week, the Gazette said emphatically that Mr. Chase was in favor of the restoration of the Missouri Compromise. We challenged the Gazette to produce its authority for this statement, but no authority could be found for it. We also invited Mr. Chase to define his position on this point but, as we have before stated, Mr. Chase repudiated the Compromise altogether. He is not in favor of its restoration.—-Cm. Col.

This must be the place, we again exclaimed, where the Indian Weta, ages ago, witnessed the giant fairies in the unearthly meeting.
After passing through allies, looking down here and there into the deep abyss, and viewing in haste, temples, palaras and chambers, and having also stepped over a small swift stream of cold, clear water, we finally, after some slight workguided by a dim light in front of us, excavated a place large enough for one to pass through, and found ourselves in Captain Scate's cave. The time occupied was about 5 hours, and the distance travelled in the cave was a trifle over three miles ,"
