TOWN CLOCK!

,The committee appointed at the last regular meeting of the Common Council to confer with the Trustees of the Congregationalist Church, in regard to placing a Town Clock in the tower of that Church, reported favorably, at the adjourned meeting, last night and a special committee was appointed to procure a clock, and to make such further arrangements as may be necessary to consummate the object contemplated.

The clock, it is estimated, will cost $4002 We hope it will be accomplished*^ .?.•, I. !t ,-t

The Coroner, Dr. W. Lee White, informs us that the report that the remains of human bodies had been found among the rums of Quinn's houses is without any foundation. Up to Wednesday night, all the burnt bones found in the ruins would not fill the hollow of a man's hand, and it is as likely they were bones of a dog or some other animal as those of a human being.—Lou. We are informed by Dr. White, coroner, that he was at the scene of the recent riot and house-burning on Main Street, ^between Tenth and Eleventh, the grbater part of yesterday and until dark last evening and that up to that time,, no vestige of human remains had been found among the ruins.-—Lou. A poor divil all legs and nonsumption, like a sick turkey. A widower! May I never be blessed if I'd not rather live an owld maid, and bring up a family on buttermilk and p'raties." Here the dialogue finished up, the Marshal coming to the conclusion that he could make more next door. Whether he did we will probably know tomorrow.

Here is an account of a little census scene that came off in Ewen Street, Williamsburgh, between the Marshal and a gentlemen from Germany: "Wholives here." "Yaw." "What's your name?" Sharmany, on der Rhine." 'What's your father's name?' Nix for stay." "When did you arrive in this city." "Mit a steamboat. "Where did you live last year?" "Across der red store as you come up mit der market in your right hand, perhind der pump what, pelongs to der blaeksmid shops." The Marshal having entered all this, made up his mind that he would push ahead and examine Hans, who lives upstairs "mit der banisters." We shall note his succoss at an early day.
