/'Ahead of all Competition." inch is the caption to an editorial paragraph of the State Sentinel, of Wednesday, in which the editors take great credit to themselves for having issued an extra, ahead of all competitor8, giv1 inr an account of the Louisville riots on Monday and Monday night..
We have the curiosity to take a peep at this extra, and are quite willing to concede, that for malignant falsehood,

and wicked defamation, it stands decidedly "ahead ofall competition." The extra purports to be written by an "eye-witness" of the scenes so graphically described, and so highly colored. And it is accompanied with a few choice reflections by the editors, the deep and damning malignity of which

A Third Candidate.
A Mass Convention, of the American Party, met in Columbus, Ohio,
We may give a synopsis of the speech last week, to select a candidate for Govhereafter, but for the present are pre-! ernor, being unwilling to support Salmon P. Chase, whom they consider an
Abolitionist an agitator, and a political trickster. They passed resolution disapproving the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, and declaring that its restoration is demanded by the plainest dictates of honor and policy—that they would never abandon the principles of

Mr. Editor:—In lookinng over an ol^l "Index Re rum," I fiiid that "once upon a time," when King George was upon the English throne, a graceless scamp named George King, committed some overt act against the peace and dignity of the crown, and was therefore convicted and sentenced agreeably to the laws for such cases made and provided. George King was jugged up to await his time to be hanged. He didn't like the prospect before him, and so concluded to send the King the following petition: "George King to King George sends his humble petition, Hoping King George will pity poor

A New Issue.
The Indianapolis Republican propounds anew question for decision by the people of Indhna at the next general election. It is this "Whom shall we obey, the "Lord God the Pope," or the Lord Jesus Christ? Shall we adhere to the teachings of old-line editors and orators, or to the infallible teachings of the Protestant Bible? Strange as it may seem, thisisone of the questions that must be decided at the ballot box in the coming canvass. We have no fears as to the result." -''"l I a
