TERRE-HAUTE. IND,

Gentry is the American candidate, and reports indicate that he is beaten.

TENNESSEE ELECTION? The uews from Tennessee are still meagre and unreliable, the following is the latest.—

Nashville, Aug. 6, 9 A. M. Passengers from Knoxville report a gain of 3D00 in 14 counties of East Tennessee for Gentry. Chances are decidedly in favor of Johnston, though the K. N. 's still have a hope.

A mistake has been discovered in the returns which gives the K. N.'s a strong hope of Gentry's election. 11 A. M.

Johnson's nett gain in West Tennessee is 497, three counties to hear from and 841 in Middle Tennessee all reported. This gives Gentry 3,687 to over-

71-e South Carolina Election. I Raleioii, N. C., August 4. In the First District, Northampton C"un!.y gives Shaw, Democrat, a majority of 213. Hartford county gives ine, K. N., an increased majoriu*, Elizabeth City and one precinct in Pasquoteick give Paine a majority of 197. Two other precincts to bo heard from will probably increase his majority about 100. One precinct in Camden jpives Pairrean increased majority. The county will not fall much short of the usual majority. The Americans are sanguine of Paine's election.

SECOND DISPATCH.

In the first Congressional District, Robert T. Payne, Iv. N. Whig, is reported to be elected by 300 mfljority.

JESjT George Bebar called at tho house of a German named John Mucher, and murdered m, together with his wife and hired boy, under circumstances of revoking cruelty. He then robbed the house, and after setting it on fire, fled, but was arrested, and barely escaped lynching at the hands of the citizens of Milwaukie.

Oresont.—Gen. Joe Lane has been re-elected Delegate to Congress, and the people have decided to form a State Constitution and apply for admission fts a State next winter.
