"'%b fei. I Found Drowned I* «**. rOBHj »-j Coroner Blinn held on inquesf, last evening, over the body of a man found in the canal, a short distance from the upper part of the city. There is no clue, as we can learn, to his name.— The jury retained a verdict of Came to his death from causes unknown to the jury."
Jt3T That unrivalled caterer to public taste and dispensator of good dinners, Mr. T. C. Buntin, of the Buntin House, treated his guests, to-day, to Mackinac Trout, fresh from 'the Straits'. This is something new on the Wabash, but wil) not remaim so, as Mr. B. designs making it a matter of frequent occurrence.
The Buntin House is unsurpassed by any hotel in the west, In excellence of arrangement, attentive waiters, an inimitable De Garmo, and Buntin himself, whose name, alone is its own eulogiam.
It is rumored that Buntin will serve by a still larger Trout, to-morrow 'pro bono publico. .»,
•i'jf. Af Tired of Iteir We learn that Sheriff Burnett's boarders are tired of their place, and are desirous of changing. To this end they are busy in working at the floor of their rooms, and have twice sawed off the chains fastening their doors: bThe eyes of Linus are upon them, and they will have to be sly and quick, if they give him the slip. ,r By the way, ain't we to have a new jail scorn- Public safety and self-respect demand It.

dee-flo-bee-dee-bus-que-bang, a chief of the Caw nation of Indians, visited our office, yesterday, accompanied by his daughter, a dusky miss of sweet sixteen or le ss. Small favours, whether in the shape of dimes or an old vest, thankfully received by his excellency, and at once handed over to the care of Miss Indian, who seemed to be generaktrfasurer of baggage and all valuables, except money, which found its way into his #wn pocket as readily as though he had been a pale face.
JSF Work has commenced on the foundation for McKeen's Warehouse, on the East bank of the Canal, near the Depot of the Terre-Haute & Richmond Railroad.
"Pro Bono Publico."
We are pleased to see that Mr. C. Rose is filling up the poud at the North end of the Evansville depot. That is right. We wish other ponds in and around town could receive like attention. a
Last of the Packets.
The Toledo Blade says that on the 17th inst., the last packet went up the Wabash Canal, that will perhaps ever run out of Toledo on a regular line.— During a space of twelve years, Mr. W. J. Findley has been an agent for the Company in that place, and he says the Railroad has knocked him out of that employment entirely.

B3T Felix says a plentiful supply of bed bugs is conducive to early rising. He lus a "pitched battle" with the bugs every morning about two o'clock. For chivalry, daring and blood, he thinks they excel all the exploits in the Crimea.
Cr* On the 15th of August, all the Priests and Bisbops of the Catholic Church in Indiana are to convene in Vinccnses. This, we believe, is a quartennial convention or conference, and the occasion will be a great one to the Catholics of Indiana.

A new destroyer, it is said, has just been invented by Professor Anderson, of New York. Kellogg, of the New York Militia, says he can wrap in flames in a very few minutes any fortification, city or shipping. In an experiment with the invention, it is stated that a six pounder was charged with powder and shell, and was fired at some rocks at a suitable distance. Electricity oould not be more sudden than was the ignition upon the rocks oorruscations of light arose some fifty feet in the air, emanating from material under the most intense ignition?? It rained very hard, but notwithstanding the rain it burned on the rocks twenty-five min*tes, and in various plaoeson the grass,I which was exceedingly wet. Professor Anderson thinks Sevastopol, or any other fortification, must yield to the destructive power of this new agent.*®
The treaeuresof Russia are all removed to Moscow during times of war, for safety, andlHis stated that the bullion now in the treasury thore, greatly exceeds the sum held by the Bank of England, and the estimated value of gems and jewels is almost fabulous, before which the crown jewels and regalia of JEngland sink into comparative in-1 significance.
A NOVEL SUQOESTIOK.—In view of the numerous and well considered vetoes of the present efficient Mayor of New York, a journal of that city suggested the propriety of altering his name from Fernado Wood, to Fernado Wouldn't.^
ATCHISON REPUDIATED AT HOME.-— A correspondent of the St. Louis Democrat, writing from Weslport, Missouri, under date of July 3d, states that at meeting of the citizens of Platte county, held on the previous day, for the purpose cf getting up instructions to the Platte members in the Legislature to vote for Atchison for Senator this fall, the public voice was overwhelmingly against him.iy\,:7,'V',:N: '{i
