5 Hew Firm We have hitherto neglected to call attention to the advertisement of the new firm of SMITH-AC DODDS, advertised in another column We have been shown through the establishment from cellar to garret, and found the large room's stowed to repletion with all kinds of Groceries, Flour, Ac. The business character of these enterprising gentlemen is very high, and their new concern does great credit to our rapidly growing city. From a glance at their bills and cash book, we are led to believe their sales to have already been immense. Western dealers need not go beyond Terre-Haute to purchase

prising houses here as Smith & Dodds, and others.

",'

Three veritable Mickies as ever punished rait fish and praties" on a Friday, were arrested by Marshal Dodson, yesterday evening, for indulging in a harmless beverage known as "potheen" by all true Milesia.is—and, having their "Irish up" refused to tell where they procured the "crather."— They were accordingly conveyed to the calaboose—muttlering that it was a "Doomed Mane law!"

Fruit growing double appears to be a general thing, this season. We have seen three peaches growing together, two plums, and also double cucumbers, but the strangest freak of nature that we have witnessed this season, is two full sized tassels on one stalk of corn, coming out about two feet apart, and both being about the same height.

An interesting discovery has been made France with regard to engrafting fruit trees. Instead of maWng use of a graft, a slip is taken—from an apple tree, for example—and planted in apotato, so that a couple of inches of the slip remain visible^ It soon takes root, developes itself, and finally becomes a handsome tree, bearing fine fruit.
