As to that part of his letter in which |te says I "acted as adviser of both parties," it is Biroply ridiculous. the people, and really gave the bill their sup port!—it passed—and their favorite relocation bill passed, also, over the veto 1 aud was afterwards declared unconstitutional. Now, for a plain question to Mr. Dowling. Was there not an agreement or understanding of some kind between you and'that Senator and Representative to the effect that the timber was to be cleared from that reservoir and do you uot hold the written evidences of such agreement, signed by one or both parties Why have you not cleared off the timber in pursuance of that agreement Have you not written a letter or letters, since that agree* ment, to some person or persons in regard to fulfilling that agreement and, finally, was all that action of yours "dragging in local questions by designing men

But he gives us to understand in conclusion, that he KNOWS some of the men who committed acts of violence, and threatens that he will have them make disclosures on some "double-dealer." It is not necessary now to inquire what weight the testimony of any man ought to have, who would commit a felony, and then di.-close it. The point I wnnt to make is this, Mr. D. either has the knowledge he pretendv, or he is vaporing— if he, holding the position he does, has that knowledge and conceals it, and fails to prosecute, he is certainly guilty of a highly immoral net, by compromising felony.

If Mr. D. desires to continue the controversy, and have ''his whole figurelifted to the public gaze," he can, most certainly, be slightly gratified. I have only commenced —have stood on the defensive, so for, tad will continue to do so. unless he provokes me further.

The Evansville Journal of the 29th inot., contains an item in relation to the recent accident on the inclined plane at Maidison—copied from the "American" of the 26th, arid credits it to the "Express." Now we do not mean to be very tenacious in regard to these things, yet the frequency of their occurrance in our different exchanges, is some what annoy ing—especially, as the "Express," inadvertantly no doubt, has never so much as even hinted at the existence of the "American."
