Strawberry Festival.^

The attention of our readers is parti cularly directed to the notice, in to day's paper, of the Strawberry Party,! to come off to-morrow evening at Buntin's Hotel. This festival is prepared bv the ladies of Asbury Chapel, for the purpose of raising funds to recruit the Library of the Sabbath School connected with that Church. Great energy has been used in order to render this festival complete in every arrangement, and Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Evansville have all been drawn upon for supplies. Let ell go, and invest a half dollar, or more, in this laudable enterprise. It will repay an hundred fold, in coming years, if not immediately.

There will be a meeting, to

night, at Odd Fellows Hall, to confer the Degree of Rebekah upon the wives of Scarlet Degree members.

A stable on Oak street was

struck by lightning last night, and somewhat splintered up. A horse in ihe stable was badly hurt, but is still living. ......

JfST Messrs. Triche & Ball are now, prepared to fill all orders, in their line. Their make of furniture is as good as c:m be had any where and the prices they are selling at, makes it more foolish than wise for a man to sleep on the floor, rather than on a beadstead, or eat off of a box rather than a table, and so on in all other articles of furn:lure need' ed about a house. See their advertisement, and give them a call they are hard working men, and that is the best guarantee for honesty, these dny.s. ^v

A Magnificent Hotel.—Thoseof our readers, who may have occasion to visit Attica, in Fountain Co., will find thei Eevere House by J. Smith and Son. not second to any House in the State, in point of comfort, snd convenience. The house is new, well furnished, axid the most admirably arranged for convenience, of any Hotel we have found any •where,

The Messrs. Smith understand their basinesswtll, and will make their guests so comfortable, that each will desire to call again, Avery important-consid-eration, in these hard times, is their bills, which are very moderate,

Bear this in mind, ye who visit that beautiful City. See advertisement in the American.

tfr+T The worms are about destroying the locust tree, entirely, in this section of country. Last year they were bad on them, but are worse this season. Such a thing was hardly ever heard of before 1854. Some of our citizens say they are done with the locust tree, as an ornament and shade, in consequence of this infection.

"We ask, th^nf whirt are Democratic principles'? Isn't it amusing, wry amu ing, to hear the Democratic organs denouncing the American party as a party of unknown principles? Does not every man of ordinary intelligence in the nation know more of the American parly's distinctive principles in one minute than the whole Democratic party will ever know of its own principles in all its life?
