Louisville. As usual, Engineer Muher, -with his fireman, Mr; Dillard, coupled to the train, and the run was mt.de at the regular rate of speed, and as common until one mile south of jJorris, which is the next station below Salem, when the
engine left the track, taking three
cars with it. The fireman stayed
on the engine and was not injured,
but the engineer doubtless thought
it would save his life by leaping to the ground, and jumped to the side. As he jumped the engine turned over and feil upon him, doubtless causing instant death. When the train stopped the baggage car was across the track and two coache were derailed, but fortunately no one else on the entire train was injured. Engineer Juher lay under the engine for several hours, na it was necessary to get the wrecking crew to hoist the engine. The track was blockaded most of the night. Passenger trains were sent from Louisville around by North Vernon, then to Jitchell on the (X & M. to the main line again. To the Editor of the Telephone: Your notice yesterday of the organization of a branch of the 4 'American Protective Association' gives me both surprise and pain.
