Frank Carpenter and family, west 6th street, are spending a few days in Mitchell. Lee Dove, of MartinsvUle, will remain in his store, until the return of Harry Smith. Enoch Fuller has not been traveling for the past week,but will start out next week again. Morton Nichols is down from Indianapolis spending a few days with old home friends. Fred Brandon has a position in Chicago with the soda fountain company, inside the world's fair. W. P. Breeden and Soddy Carmichael expect to leave with their families for Chicago on the 3rd. The Racine Machine werks, which C. F. Fresslar was traveling for, have been forced to suspend business. Charles Dry bread, a former graduate, but who has been teaching at Bioonilield,is attending the summer school. John Fitzpatrick,wcst 7th street, claims to have the largest lettu ce head in the county. The head is solid and about 7 inches in diameter and weighes six pounds. Marion Hinkle states that the prices on stock are very lovt He succeeds in shipping about one car

load every two weeks. The mark- J

et gives poor inducements at present for stock buyers. While D.O.Spencer was at Indianapolis he called on Judge Field, general counsel for the Monon. The Judge had just returned from Hot Spring, and his condition is greatly improved. By October lie hopes to be in court ag li x Judge A. M. Cunning hied a lein this morning against the Bloomington Water Works for $2,020.30 for work done in blasting rock for the mains by Reuben Murphy and George E. Mercer. Murphy has gone to his home m Ohio 'to get money to pay his workmen. During the torm Wednesday, Dudley Smith, of this city, had 11 haad of cattle killed on his farm by lightning. The cattle were under a large shade tree in the pasture, when a bolt of electricity struck the tree, and the 11 nut cf 19 were killed instantly. The bodies were afterwards piled together and burned. They were worth about $60 psr head. The County Commissioners have made the following order: uThat

each Township Trustee of the several township of Monroe county, Indiana, proceed at once, under the act approved March 4th, 1893, entitled an act to provide or the appointment of Supervisors. &c., to appoint reliable and efficient road supervisors, in each road district in their several townships, who shall- at once proceed to repair in ah efficient and practical manner, all . the roads of the county; and said trostees are directed to use such means by taxation and the laboi in their several townships as will keep such roads in good order for public travel, and that such trustees make to the board u report of the actual condition of the roads, the amount of taxes expended and the labor pel-formed in their several townships, to the next 'term of this court, as well as the names and efficiency of each supervisor so appointed by them."
