A Horrible Wreck.
There was a terrible railroad wreck on the Big Four at Lafayette early Sunday morning, t?.s a result of which ten men are now dead and many more injured. The accident was caused by the failure of the uir brakes to work. The engineer undoubtedly discovered this before reaching the cut beyond the Wabash river, as vigorous whistles of the engine for brakes could be heard when the train was a mile west of
the city. The engineer's desperate
elforts to stop the train was shown
by the amount of sand thrown by
him on the bridge over which the train came just before the fatal crash. The engine dashed from the bridge at a speed not less than

An entrance thus secured, it was easy enough to remove the bar that fastens the west door on the inside, and then remove as ninny gjods as their demands required. In as much as the room is uod for storing all kinds of groceries, it is impossible to estimate the exact loss, but Mr. Blake. y thinks it will not be below ou hundred dollars. Meats, both bacon and hams. Hour, coffee, a box o:: plug tobacco, canned goods, and a number of other articles have been taken, and it is evident from tne weight and bulk of the goods that a wagon was close at hitnd. Mr. Blakely has a very
strong suspicion as to the thieves, and the comm. mity will hope that arrests will follow, as evidently it is the same gang that has been operating about town so freely for the past two months. It will be recalled that a few months ago the store was entered in about the same way and a small amount of goods stolen. Gooci advice to our citizens is to bar the doors and windows until a few slick citizens arc landed in the penitentiary. Miss Libbie Fullertou, of this city, has resignod her position as assistant principal of the Ellettsville hio-h school. She has held this position for two years and gave universal satisfaction. J. C.
