The price paid was $2,500. A deep-well pump has been received and will be placed in gas well No. 2, to bring the water to the surface. No work hart been done this week. It is now artesian water or nothing. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Slider, an aged couple of Fayettville, Lawrence county, are in the city visiting their daughter, Msr Stinebagen. Mrs. Laura Lang, of Kokomo, is also her gueet. The new Indiana school books have not arrived for the township schools, but are expected in a few days. The Ellettsville board states that they will not introduce them in the schools at that place. Rev. Vernon Cowsert, of Louisville, will preach at the Baptist church Sunday, Oct. 13th, that being the beginning of his pastorate year. He i to occupy the pulpit here every other Sunday. He says it is a plendid exhibition, both the hippodrome and circus, and that a line balloon ascension and parachute leap was made. John A. Mayticld, a son of the late Nicholas Maytield, who moved to Grover, Wells county, Nebraska, died Sept. 23rd of something like mountain fever. He was well known to the people in the south and west part of Monroe county. James H. Clark authorizes the Telephone to state that he is not nor will not be a candidate for County Clerk. Charley Griffy left at once on receipt of the news to attend the funeral. About 75 delegates are expected to attend the U. P. church Synod next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The visitors will generally be entertained by the people of the city, except for dinner Wednea day and Thursday, when the country members of the congregation will give dinners at the church.
