The present arrangement is unhealthy;

that the jail be scrubbed at least once each week, and that the Commissioners make an allowance for the same. Bran new stock of Childrens' Knee Pants Suits. J. P. TomiNKR & Co, It is generally understood that the present Monroe County Agricultural Association will be abandoned. The association this year inherited $200 indebtedness from the year before, and at the exhibition just closed the

receipts fall about 100 short of the necessary expenses and premiums, though more favorable weather for a fair could not have been desired. Including the $200 already owing and the shortage of this year, not

held a meeting Monday, and of those present it was the unanimous opinion that the enterprise be aban

doned. A proposition was made

that if a new stock company would assume the present indebtedness, all the buildings, &c. on the grounds would be turned over. As a new

company had not been formed, such

a proposition could not be accepted. There is no doubt, however, but that a new company would be willing to take the buildings at a fair value. The ground belongs to the county. The Mechanics' band serenaded

iCharles Drysdale at the residence

of D.O.Spencer on Tuesday evening, shortly before he and his folks departed for their distant western home The music was excellent.

The Horticultural exhibit of the Monroe county fair was sent to the State fair Monday. This county has taken the premium for the past two years.

The Orleans fair is held on the 25th, 26th, 27th and 2Slh of this month. Excursion rates ha.ve been secured over the Monon, good returning until Monday the 80th. A good fair is promised.
