NEW ARRIVALS. To the Editor of the Telephone : Plants are not such stationary things as is generally supposed. While they do not posset; the power of voluntary locomotion yet they have a means Uy which they are carried in the form of seed often for many miles. The more common means for the dissemination of send are the winds, streams, animals and the railroads. I will here name a few weeds that were without much doubt introduced by the railroad and wre noticed for the first time in the vicinity of Bloomington within the last few years. After their introduction thoy were scattered by the wind and animals. The Hairy Plantain (Piantago aristata),a gvassdike weed, six to eight inches high, with inconspicuous llowers, was first noticed last summer on iir Wm. Allen'?? farm north of town. Thi.:j reason it h 'u spread and mav now be found any wh.?rc north and cast of town. The St. Johii'f Wort (Hypericum perforatum) n; afoot or more high, branched, with small vellow r-owors. This plant wss also notice "! for the first time last Kum:uer iv r railroad. Thi L.,e j:rt.0CAUirig weedjh .o e-pread r,nd tlicason jnay be found abundantly ar y whore along the railroad ;rl adjoi?iimc fields. This weed is V;r troubi--some a-itd not easily. o:-;Lcnuinat-..M . vSpurge ( Euphorbia coniimmtat) is from six to twelve inches high, with branching stem and pale green leaves and llowers. is found in the railroad-cut north of town, where it was nrst no i iced, a.nr ;;i it trequents streams and shady slopes, will not. spread into the ikdds as the two proceeding weeds have done. Yellow sweet clover (Mciliiotis officinalis), somewhat resembling common red e'ovcv hut wi-h yellow flowers, vras introduced by the railroad. It is still confined to the railroad in the south part of tovn and may not spread. Flover of an Hour (Hibiscus trionuin) was first noticed last summer near Mr. Campbell's on East First Street. It is not easy to account for the appearance of this weed. It. may be an escape from a garden. Home demand is gradually consuming our farm produce. Kui !ci the rapid extension of our railways into the Territories we shouhl have no wheat to sell. We sell only

Ismail per cent, of our coin. A J it-
