The plan adopted by the New Albany schools in reference to school books, seems wise. The new books not yet being at hand, the trustees instruct the scholars to bring with them such old books as they have and use them uutil the new books arrive, which will be ouly a few days. With the exception of two, every county in the State has complied wiih the law and will follow its provisions. A bill has been presented to the county commissioners by the widow of Edwin May, amounting to $800, for iiiinngment on a jail cell lock, that is in use in our county jail. The bill was presented last June and went over uutil this term, when it was rejected. The case will of couse

been caught in the same trap and been compelled to pay the account. M. M. Dunlap is attoney for the patentee and action wili be brought in the U S. court. The effort of the "ring" school book company to create the impression that the Republican press is almost solid luaiust the new law, is in keeping with the falsehoods that have ben chasing each other over the Slat for the past three months. In the xouth past of the State the Evanville Jountfif, in the west the Terre Haute Express, in the north the Ff.Wayne GuzettesM papors of large intluenee are strong advocates of the new books. The Democratic press solid and fully half of the Republican press is demanding that the "ring" books go. Smoke the C. C. C.

H. J. Walls and Ed. BorufF have brought suit against Sam. 0. Dodds, James D. Showers and Win. N. Showers in which they ask $12,000 damages. It will be remembered that some time last spring a town by the name of Bedford, in Shawswic township, Lawrence oounty, made an attempt to secure one of Bloomington's mammoth factories, but there was a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip, and in the meantime the factory didn't go. M essrs. Wal 1 s and Boruff now claim that they have been damaged $12,000, and refuse to be comforted by a stave bucker that the Telephone tendered them some time ago. The proposition is now hereby withdrawn. The boys don't know a good thing when they see it.
