A dispatch from Spencer Friday morning states that while bori ng for gas, artesian frater was found at a depth of 1,04 4 feet, and that the water comes within 300 feet of the top. It is similar in quality to the Martirsville water.

- Mrs. White, who intends moving here from Marissa, Ills., has bought a lot on north Morton Street, from Gen. Hunter, and will erect a handsome cottage soon She will move here in the spring.

Hon. A. C. Mellette has been nominated by the Republicans of South Dakota for Governor, by acclamation. He is a son-in-law of Dr. T. A. Wylie and a graduate of Indiana University.

The venerable mother of Judge Pearson, who lives with Mrs. Morri0 son at Bedford, accidentally fell one day last week and broke a thigh bone. She is now over 83 years old and her recovery is doubtful. Andrew Hemphill, living on east ;ird street, and one of the oldest citizens of the county, is lying at the point of death. His condition ha been serious for the past week and he is growing weaker all the time.

The Worthington Times thinks that Professor Gilbert, having discovered 35 new varieties of fish, will have to originate a few new fish stories and then he should be allowed to retire on full pay. The Bollman estate will probably be settled at this term of court. The property is to be divided equally between ali the heirs. It is the intentionjto plat the piece of ground laying between north Walnut and Lincoln streets and . put it upon the market There will bo 28 lots besides the streets and alleys. The habit of fair associations sending ''complimentary" tickets to pay for advertising would soon be discontinued, if editors would return them with the statement that "nothing but cash goes." The idea of a newspaper inserting a 1 advertisement in return for a ticket to a fair that he hopes never to be compelled to attend, is preposterous. Sunday morning at 11 o'clock Miss Jennie Stephens, the daughter of Squire Stephens living in Salt Creek towhsbip, was married to J. B. Moser, of Cloverdale. There was a large number of friends present and J. B. Cox officiated. Mr. Moser is a prominent druggist of Cloverdale and they left on the noon train Monday for their future home at that place. Mrs. Martini Smith is visiting relatives at Salem Miss Ella Hensiey, north Lincoln street, is dangerously sick. . . .John J. Kirk, a brother-in-law of Mrs. Lewis Bollman, has been in tie city on business connected wit-i the estate. . . . James Hunter has taken charge of the city treasurer's office and will present his bond to the council tonight.
