Brown county yesterday. Miss Ella Burtcn and Mr. Brumback are guest of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wooiery. They are on their wav to Boise Citv, Idaho. John D. Pugh and wife, of Terre Haute, will spend Sunday with Rev. W. R- Halstead and family. Mrs. Push is a sister of Mr. Halstead. Miss Charlotta Lttell, who accompaiued Miss Lenna Seibert home, &fter making a pleasant visit has returned to her home in Orleans. Mrs. Luciuda Woodward has sold her farm iu Judian Creek township to Joe Phillies. The price paid was $1,200. There are about 72 acres.
Mrs. Hughes i moving into the handsome cottage built by her, just east of Mrs. Dunn, on 3rd street. It is quite an improvement to that vicinity. Next Sunday Rev. W. R. Halstead will preach in the morning on the subject of "Faith1 and at night on "The Character and Characteristics of Daniel. The Monon will make a rate of one cent per mile each way to Chicago, to persons attending the G. A. R. encampment at Milwaukee. The rate from Chicago is $2.55.

Mrs. Dolly (Mercer) Graham, a well known school teacher of this place several years ago, died at Brazil last week. The Ladies. Literary Society, of which she was a prominent member, adopted ibc following resolutions: "Whereas: Our dear friend and sister has been called from her earthly home to "one not made with hands eternal in the heavens' Therefore be it "Resolved ; That we, members of the Ladies' Literary'Sooiety deeply deplore the sad event that has taken from her family, her church, her society, one so pure and holy, so sweet and unseitish, so fuli of good works and tender thoughts for all. "Resolved: Our Society will ever remember her zeal for knowledge, her love for pure literature, her earnest, efforts for the advancement of ali, the rare wisdera of her course while our presiding officer, the unvarying sweetness and patience which marked her intercourse with us. We bear iovinsr testimony to the beauty and completeness of her character, the qualities of heart and mind which made her life a perpetual inspiration to all things lovely and of good report. "Resolved: That we tender to her bereaved husband, her afflicted family, her wide circle of friends the assurance of oTir deep sympathy, and commend them to the tender care of our Lord and Saviour, who was so precious to our departed sis-ter.v
The amusemeat season will open at the opera house Wednesday evening, when a first class company will be here and play "Ranch King." On Thursday night ;Libby Prison" will be given.

Citizens in tho vicinity of Keicham's Sulphur Springs are requested to meet at the horirgs at 0 o'clock Thursday morning, August 22nd, to prepare the grounds and make all other necessary arrangement for the Old Settlers' meeting at that place Saturday and Sunday, August 24th and 25th."

Just at noon yesterday when Sheriff T. J. Farr wtnt to feed the prisoners of the jail, George Bockman and a man by the name of Harris made their escape. Both men were in the upper tier of celis,and during the night and day had sawed out three bars. This enabled "them to drop down into the lower corridor, and the door leading out was not locked. When Farr went to go around the staiivay to take the food to the apper cells, the two men slipped out and male their escape. In a minute Farr was on his horse and after them. They started east and made tracks a fast as possible, but
by the time they reached the east!

Mrs. Ryors left yesterday to visit her son Alfred at Chicago. She will remain two weeks.
Rev. G. W. Tony h preparing to build a cottage on College hill, and work will begin at once. Harlev Anderson ha bought the ml O half interest of James Lane in the barber shop west of Faris Bros.
Three new school houses are being erected in the county. One in Bean Blos-sorm. one in Marion and one in Polk.
The county institute, which convenes next week, will be attended bv a verv large crowd of visitors as well as teachers, The im gramme is a good one and will be greatly appreciated. The Monon and the 8tmesvil'e& Bloominuton stone tjuarries are completing arrangements to run a switch from the Monon road into their quarries. Work is to begin next week and the eocit will be about $4,000.
