W. B Baker has been quite sick for several days, Mrs. W. F. Reed is very sick with something like flux. J. S. Wade, of Needmore.was in Bloomington Tuesday. Prof. J. C. Misses Clara and Nora Robinson are visiting the Drybread's at Edinburgh Prot. Frank Axtell i quite sick at his father's home on east Gth street.
Henry Lee left Wednesday night for his home at Kingman, .Kansas. Mrs. Lee will remain until fall.
'Sam. Hunter will go to Indian Springs the 18th to remain three weeks.
John Buskirk and wife are sipping artesian water at Martinsville this week.
The mother of Mrs. James Simmons,Mrs. Richards,of Lincoln, His., is visiting in the city. Mrs. Rawles left Monday for Vincennes, where she was called by the sickness of Miss Grace.
It is -expected that drilling on the gas well will begin next week. The derrick is up and readv tor use.

The funeral was Wednesday at 10 o'clock. The normal opened this week with an attenadnce of 30 students. This will likely be largely increased as soon as harvest is over.

Dr. Allison Maxwell and family are down from Indianauolis visiting the Doctor's parents, Knox county comes forward with a forty acre field of wheat averaging 31 bushels to the acre.
The 14-year, old son of James Skirvin, in Benton township, is dan gerously sick with nervous dyspepsia, and not vxpected to live. Next Tuesday morning the Telepwoxe will be issued as a special edition. A 15-column description of the city and its business men will be a feature.
Dan Driscoll, graduate of '88 from the University, has been reelected principal of the Sulpher Springs, Montana, school at a salary of $150 per month. i Charles Shower .expects to take a course in the business college at Indianapolis in a short time. He has been the book-keeper at the factory for the past year.

Experts who have recently ridden over the Indianapolis division of the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago road say that the physical condition of this division is superior to that of the so-called main line, which is saying a good deal,as it is a common thing to run trains fifty to sixty miles an hour for long distance.

The prizefight is a sad commentary on modern civilization, and the fact that it attracU-so mnoh attention is a still sadder one. There is something to admire in manly sports, athletic exercises and stubborn contests of strength and ability, but a prize-tight is simply brutal. The qualities displayed are purely animal, and those of the lowest order The victor in this light is now regarded by a great many people ar a hero.
In reality both contestants are human bruten, and the victor in the fight will display no qualities in which many lower animals do not surpass him. Many a little man who does not know how to put up his hands would make a braver soldier or do his duty in any perilious emergency better than either of them.

There will be a meeting of the Republican Strte central committee on the 19th inst. The action it will take then in filling the offices that have been made vacant by the appointment of the chairman, vicechairman, secretary and treasurer to places under the government, will have an important bearing on the campaign next year. John R. Jirill has received a flattering offer to teach at Eldorado, Arkansas, anci will probably accept. It will be private school work with a salary of '&100 per month. A. W. MiIHr, of Paoli, was in the city yesterday. He has several positions offered him for next fall, but has as yet accepted nothing. "Old Nig," the familiar black horse that I. M. Rogers has been driving, died Wednesday. The animal was over 30 years old. Misses Ada and Kate Pearson returned last night from Bedford, where they have been the past week guests of Mrs, Robert C. Houston.
Wednesday evening the Showers Bros received word from a Pittsburg, Pa., firm to hip at once 200 bureaus and 400 beds to Johnstown.

Frank Foster, a graduate of '88 in lndianaUnivesUy,is in the city making a farewell call before going to Cold Water, Kansas, where he is to preach for the next two months. Tuesday morning a dispatch was received from Kansas City announcing the death of the five-months old child of Mrs. W. G. Marshall. It was a grandson of Mrs. M. J, Bradfute, ofthiseify, who is now at that place. The little one was only sick a few hours. Abraham Donaldson has received notice that he has been appointed a government wagon inspector with headquarters at South Bend, this State. The salary is about $1,H00 a year and expenses. Mr. Donaldson is the secretary of the Republican county central committee, and was
