Miss Creed Myers spent Sunday at Gosport with the home falks. The Athletic Association will place a bulletin board in Wylie Hall. John C. Wells, '86, was in Bloomington a few hours yesterday on a business trip. Prof. John M. Coulter, of Wabash College, will lecture thin ;venn at the college chapel. Prof. John Campbell, of Wabash college, will deliver the lecture next Sunday afternoon. Subject: "Light." . --Booth and Barrett will be at Indianapolis next week. Several students m ill go from here the powers permitting Will Foster, 5ss, came up from Brownsto'.vn last Friday and will visit here for a week or two. His school there closed last week. The titate oratorical content this year promises to be the bes .that has been held for five years. About 20 students will go up from here Miss Lou Yonse,of Indianapolis, was visiting Miss Carrie Brown and other friends here last week and this. Miss Youse was a student here durkx the first term of this year. The annual province convention of the Phi Ielta Theta chapters located in Indiana and Michigan will beheld at Indianapolis at the New-Denison Hotel next Friday. Several members will attend from here. Prof. R. G. Boone will represent the university at the meeting of the Southern Teachers' Association to be held at Greensburg next Thursday and Friday. He will read a paper on "Primary Method in Country Schools. " "Sunset" Cox will lecture here nextMonday evening. This v ill be good-news to everybody who wants to hear a first class lecture. His subject will be "The Tenth Muse or the Poetry of Mechanism." This will be the last lecture of the course. Librarian Spangler has published his advertisement for the European tour next summer, giving route, estimate of expense, etc., etc. The trip promises to be one of th a best yet taken. Any one who contemplates making a trip to Europe can get full information by addressing Mr. Slangier.
State Treasurer Lemcke has asked the different County Treasurers to make advanced payments of the

semi-annual settlement, ?o that if he is not successful in procuring the loan of $700,000 authorized by the Legislature without delay, ha will have some money for the payment of the salaries of the State officers and the expenses of the imblic institutions. He expects that many of the Treasurers will respond to the call. The salaries of the State officers for three months will be due on the 1st of April, amounting to $55,000, and the monthly expenses of the institutions will amount to $5ot0P0 or 00,000 more, in addition to which warrants tor about $33,000, issued to members and employes of the -Legislature, are outstanding. Many of thee;e. warrant havj been paid -by County Treasurers and will be turned in when the hemi anuual settlement is made. The .amount of money needed to meet pressing demands is about $150,000,

He is a gentleman of magnificent personaJ appearance and will make an ideal officer. He is 'bioeky" of imihi, with snow-white hair and mustache, and does not look unlike the late Jen. Phil. Sherida;. He served in the army and won ;i Colonelship. He was one of the 'Original Harrison men, and was :o uncompromising that he hadn't any patience with anybody who declined to agree with him. He was oae of the Indiana delegates to the Chicago convention and labored uneeasingly for General Harrison's success. Col Dunlap's selection is not only a cosapiiment to the soldier elemont, bu! also to that interesting ciass ot individuals who are known as "Knights .of the Grip" and who made themselves such a force in the late campaign Col. Dunlap is a "drummer" of high degree, ai d that is Milficient as a declaration that he is a remarkably clever and popular gentleman.

PARKS SCHOOL HOCSK. The musical contest at ti.e school house Friday night was unusually interesting. The folks from thi uBnek-' Prof. 1 lamia's class, were here in "full force," although the main tenor singers did not arrive until recess. There is hut about 20 in their class. They have a igoodly number of Soprano, Tenor and Bass: We had a larger force of Alto. Their "Golden Gate Chant," "Hallelujah Anthem," " Whip-poor-will," and "Skating Glee," were tine pieces well sung. There were ten pieaes on each side. Oar scholars done well, but the decision was two lor the "Brick," and one for the "Parks." The judges were Mr. Stout, Samuel Whisnand and Newt. Fee. Tbe folks from the "Brick" said they didn't expect to beat. We go to their house next Thursday night. ellettov!xle7 A. J.
