John Wilson and wife and Miss Emma Bullock, of Bloomington, Illinois, are the guests of H. J. Nichols and wife.
The Board of Health should see that the condition of the city is cleaner than at present. There are many complaints from different quarters. You can now see life among the Kickapoo Indians at your" own doors. The exhibition is interesting, amusing entertaining unique and pleasing, and don't you forget they are free. Squire W. W. Harrold is in the eity on a short visit. He is now located at Newton, Kansas, and at the head of a carpenter force on the Santa Fe road.
Mrs. Binkley, wife of the late Bev. S. L. Binkley, will spend the winter m Bloomington and board with Mrs. Showers. As soon as the lease expires she will probably take the Carter property for her future home.
Wm. P. Rogers has been invited by Dr. Jordan to deliver his address on "Life" ale the college chapel at an early date. This is the address that was given at the . old settlers9 meeting and received such favorable comment.
Greencastlc Times : "Dr. W. M. Zaring, the retiring minister, has been appointed presiding elder and will have charge of the Bloomington district with headquarters at Bloomington. He leaves with the best wishes of his many friends in the city, where he has filled the pulpit of Locust street his allotted time in a manner most highly satisfactory to all."
The Rev. Wm. Teller requested the presiding elder to give him circuit work this year, that he might have the benefit of horseback riding and exercise in the fresh air. He was appointee to Ellcttsvilie. At Bedford, his recent location, he gave excellent satisfaction, and it is hoped his health will soon be restored, as he is regarded as one of the beet preachers of the confereace.
"lawful men, good and true, Ac."
The reporter also learned, sub rosa, that General Ben. Harrison and Col. Will. Cumback, of Decatur Co., will probably bo associated .with Senator Voorliees ;n the assertion of the rights, real and supposed, of our neighboring university. Trustee
I Binkley declined being interviewed,
saying "The employments will be made public as soon as they are all made." Col. Friedly, of course, for Mrs. Andrew Mcintosh, of Salem, the only surviving daughter by Mr. DePauw's first marriage, who is the plaintiff in the case, is equally reticent. The Col. has his face turned stoutly against trying the cause celebre in the newspapers. Yet it was gathered from him when he was here this week, that the case will likely be tried at New Albany during the coming January. The Barnesvillc (O.) Republican introduces a two-column article on the life of Rev. S. L. Binkley, as follows: For he fell like a Martyr, He died at bis post." Rev. Binkley is dead ! That was the exelamation of almost every citizen as the sad toll of the M. E. church bell was heard last Saturday afternoon, near three o'clock. The surmise was correct, and the soul of
one of God's ideal men had gone to His mansion to take on its garb of Immortality. Sorrow was pictured on the faces of the old and young, the high and low, the strong and weak as the truth was realized. At the close of the first three years' pastorate in one charge he dies, leaving to it a record wonderful, sublime, complete. The physical was not as strong as the spiritual man and he, with trembling limbs, moved from his church to his bed. As the days passed the overtaxed body found an enemy in the ap proaching fever that was not to be conquered. He saw the handwrit

here and will .illustrate Indian War Dances, Buffalo Dances, Scalp Dances, Sharp Shooting, etc., etc. These exhibitions are free, and no one should fail to ee them. The show will be on Prospect Hill. Sup't Blue, who is the head of the proposed new railroad, in answer to an inquiry, writes as follows : Ms. H. J. Fsltu, Dear Sir: Your favor of the 7th ingt. making inquiry concerning the plans and prospects of the St. L. fc C. K. R. Co., is at hand. In reply permit ms first to assure you that the rumors that we are waiting to sell, which you say are in circulation, are wholly unfounded. As you are aware, the officers and ownership of the Indiana & Illinois Southern are practically the same, and neither of these properties are on the market for sale
or looking for purchasers. On the other hand the latter is being thoroughly reconstructed and the guage widened to standard; the grades
j lowered, and the embankments
widened and raited, and new bridges built. It is the desire of the company to put the line from Switz City to Columbus under contract of construction at an as early a date as all arrangements can be made. The company is certainly very sincere in it desire to construct this line, believing that it will be a fairly desirable property itself and also that it will add to the value of the L fc I. S. property. You will readily conceive the wisdom of not commencing an undertaking of this kind until every arrangement can be made in detail, and this requires time, often more than is seemingly required, and a pardonable anxiety to have it completed makes things seem to move tediously. Thanking you for the interest you manifest in the matter, I am very truly yours, P. H. Bi.uk.
en the track and the whistle blowed. In an instant, however, the engine threw the animal from the track and the ergine and baggage car passed in safety when the cow rolled under the wheels of the passenger coach, throwing it fvom the rails. In this condition it ran fully o:se hundred yards when the car turned over and was badly demolished both inside and out. Near all tt e seats were broken, and all the passengers were injured more or less. John Hoppeu and wife, of Salerr., were badly hurt. Mrs. Hoppen is hu:rt internally about the abdomen. A family of emigrants that got on the train at Bloomington are also badly injured ; a part of the scalp of the father being torn away. Conductor Van Name, of New Albany, had jtfrrne ribs broken. The names of the others injured cannot be learned. They were at once placed in a baggage car and taken to New Albany. i Mr. Otterman, the young man who was at the fair with speed horses, was injured; it is reported that he had three ribs broken. About thirty passengers wore on the train and all are more or less; bruised.
LATJSU : The following persons are reported hurt in addition to the above: S . D. Hendricks, Campbell sburg ; Rev. J. H. Denny, Mitchell; Mr. Burke, wife and three children near Henryville. Two brothers named McRe) uolds, of Washing ton county, and the pumper at the tank at Bridgeport, received scalp and face wounds.
