A NEW RAILROAD KNTEKPRISE FOR MONROE COUNTY. The following article we take from the Evansville Journal It should meet with the steady thought of the people of our county, for next to the east and west railroad, it is of great and lasting benefit to our people. The recent canvass for aid to the St. Loui and Cincinnati railroad has placed before us the railroad as the great bans of prosperity; so that there cannot be too much consideration given to it.

The proposed road will be fully dis- j

Corn is worth 45 cents here on' the Htreet to-day, and it is hard to get at that. Speaking of this road, the Evansville Journal says ; "A communication from Lewis Kollman, Ksq , a prominent, citizen of Bloomington, lnd., published in ihis issue, tells of a proposed new railroad from this city to South Bend. The more railroads Evansville has the better. All persons who are inclined to go into such enterprises should give thought to this proposition. Mr. Boilman is not a man who speaks at random. He knows Indiana, its resources and capabilities well." The article referred to i.s as follows: If anv person will consult such a

one half is now made. From South j

Prof. Will Rawles writes from Vincennes to the Telbphonu: "I am nicely fixed here ; I was fortunate ia getting in a very kind family, and am well pleased with the schools, and everything is running along smoothly. The people iu Vincennes are very hospitable." Prof. Hoffman will organize a 'Classical Club" at his study next Tuesday evening. The work will begin with the translation of Homer's Odyssey and continue throughout the year. He is also conducting a class in the new Testament Greek every Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Such enterprises are commendable. The work in composition this year under the direction of Prof. Wood burn, promises to fill a loni; felt want. Essays are again required of all the students, at reuiar intervals of time, and it is to be taped that Indiana University will again gain the superiority in literary work that once made her the leader in the State. At the last meeting of the Board of Trustees, new rules for the government of the library .were adopted. The customery regulations to preserve order were included. The library is open from 8:15 i?? it. to 12 m. and from 1 i m. to 4 r. . About $1,000 will be expended this year for books. It is the intention to set aside the room just west of the library for a reference room. Each professor will prepare a catalogue of the books connected with his department for the use of tie special studonts. Librarian fcpangler also has in preparation a more elaborate catalogue which will he finished by the end of the year. the present time, there are about 7js($ volumes on the shelves.
