INTERESTING TEMPERANCE NOTES. To the Editor of the Telephone : I would like the use of your columns to give a few items in relation to the temperance work, gathered on the journey from your city after Commencement. Having several hours to wait in-Indianapolis, a part? of five visited the lunch-room of the W. C. T. U. at 16 N. Penn. St. and partook of a substantial supper of potatoes, beefsteak, bread and butter. Cost 50c for the entire party. The room is a large airy one on the first floor, carpeted with matting and containing 18 or 20 tables. We enquired of the matronly looking lady in charge how the business was conducted; whether the help was contributed or hired He said, "We pay lor everything. We usually tate in about 30 per day and deposit with our treasurer from S0 to $50 per week, net profit.' This looks encouraging from a business stand point. "The Head Quarters of State W.C. T. U., 3U Va. Ave., were next visited. This is & cozily furnished room on the second floor, in charge of the State Sec'y, Miss L. E. Reed, who is also editor of the Organizer. On learning where we came from Miss Reed said, "Oh yes, Bloomington has the banner Union of the State and I am proud of it" She also expressed herself delighted with the action of the Ur ion in placing a Temperance Reference library in the University, and said he should offer-a $80 prize there for the best temperance essay written by a student next year. After a pleasant call we left Indianapolis eeling that the temperance women there were thoroughly in earnest, and efficiently represent the good rause for which they are working. Changing cars at Manchester, O., we noticed some suspicious looking kegs unloaded at that place, and on inquiry found that in a town of 1,500 inhabitents there Mere Ave licensed saloons, two whisky drugstores, and no temperance organization. In another town we found the following signed, W. C. T. U. "Vote for the second Amendment and down will go the saloons and taxes, and up will go our homes and our boys." And although not enough voters followed the advice to secure the results promised, yet the work as a whole is moving steadily forward. , Rhode Island has followed New York in passing a Compulsory Scientific Temperance bill; the women of the Mas. W. C. T. U. are concentrating their energies to secure the passage of a like bill in their State, and we hope and expect that the next legislature of Indiana will place her among the advance guard in this foundation work of prohibition. A CITIZEN.
OBITUARY. From the Courier Lambert M. Feltus, the father of the editor of the Courier, died at his home in Belmont county, Ohio, near Wheeling West Va., recently, of cancer of the stomach- He was born in New York in 1812, and was a son of Rev. Henry J. Feltus of the Episcopal Chnrch, of which church also the deceased, in his younger days, was an active member, many years servinggas organist of St Stephen's Church, Brooklyn. He graduated at Harvard College, and for twenty years practiced the profession of law in New York City. He was married in early manhood, and his first wife died about 40 years ago. Several years before the war he removed to Cincinnati, where he was engaged as an accountant in a banking institution and was soon after married again, and his wife now survives him. At the outbreak of the war the deceased enlisted as a private soldier, and served in various capacities until the close of the rebellion. He carried a musket through several hard fought battles, and was a patriot in ever sense that the word implies. Several years after the close of the war he removed to the quiet home where he died, surrounded by many loving hearts. He was an unselfish man; kind, tender, indulgent to a fault. Had he his own way all the world have been happy. He denied himself that others might have. His constant hope was to see especially those he loved surrounded by peace and plenty. He was an enemy to no man; no man was an enemy to him strife and discord were -unknown to him. He strived to be a christian. Not an ostentatious one, but a true christian at heart, one every ready to do what was right between man and man. His death has wrung the hearts of his wife and children, who knew him far better than the world. It was the first death in the immediate family for nearly forty years. We beg of our readers this space to place on record a tribute to a noble heart, tx good man our Father.
Wanted A good sized man, no record, but some money, to "run" for two offices. Must live in Monroe county. Any one knowing or hearing of such characters will please leave notice at the Courier office or the Chairman of the Democratic Central Committee and be liberaly rewarded.

Modern science has proved that Rheumatism Is a blood disease, and has provided Athlophoeos as the remedy which can completely cure it.
