INDIANA UNIVERSITY. Says the Indianapolis Sentinel: By reference to bur advertising columns it will be seen that the Board of Trustees of the Indiana University are taking steps to at once commence the erection erf two new college buildings to replace the one destroyed by fire last summer. The buildings are to be erected in the beautiful grove adjoining the aity of lUoomington on the East, known to all old Students as "Dunn's
Woods,' where twenty acres off
ground, most admirably adapted to ike purposes for which it is intended, were recently purchased by the Trustees We understand that two buildings proposed have been designed with especial reference to the wants of the University, and it must be gratifying to all the friends of the Institution to knew that the Beard is moving in the matter of building at once. Notwithstanding the disastrous fire last summer, the contributions from various colleges, learned societies, and liberal individuals throughout the country, have been so numerous, that the Natural History Department is already on as sure a footing as before the fire; and the liberal donation of $50,000 by the citizens of Monroe County to assist in the erection of buildings, adds to make the future of the University most promising." The contract says bids will be received for the 'contract of both buildings, or for one, as the bidder may elect, and they must be filed with James L. Mitchell, esq. b the 25th of March, 1S84, at which time they will be opened and the contract let. Each bid must be accompained with a bond in the sum of $10,000, conditioned that the bidder will enter into contract within six days there-, from, and give such bond for the performance of his contract as the Board may require. The contractor will be required to complete his undertaking by the 1st day of December, 1884. Monthly estimates will be made by the Supervising Architect of all work done and materials furnished, and the ecutractor will be paid 90 per cent, 10 be retained until the contract is completed and the work received by the Board, when it will . be paid.
Thirty thousand brick will be furnished by the Board on the ground, and such of the bricks remaining from the ruins of the building.destroyed by fire lat summer, as are sutiaWe for first-class work, and such of the stone and iron in said burned building as can be utilized, will be at the service of the contractor where it now is. The contractor shall have the priv ilege of the stone-quarry on the ground free of charge, but he is to work the same in such manner as least to injure the grounds. Those who bid on the houses separately will consider the new bricks on the ground and the old bricks and cut stone and iron at the site of the

But when they have conscientiously performed their work, and with painstaking to have it accurate, it is, to say the least, ungracious in those in whose interest this work has been done to criticise or complvtn of a single mistake of judgment out of columns of laborious exactness. The press, as a rule, is little thanked for its public benefactions, and for the reason that its labor are not usually performed through hope of proper recognition or for the purpose of gaining public applause. But in its services it is entitled to at least an exemption from unkindly and unmerited criticism from those it may seek to benefit and protect. A RARE CHANCE. Subscription books for -the first mortgage gold band, of the Florida International R. R. A S. S. Co., will be opened here next week. The bonds draw six per cent, interest, payable semi-annually, and each $100 bond is accompanied by a land warrant, negotiable and transferable. This is a solid enterprtse, and is undoubtedly the finest investment which can be found. It is also the last chance for obtaining a land warrant in this country. Hon. J. B. Gordon is President, Hon. Wm. "Windom, Vice-President; and Hob. Jiio. 0. New, Treasurer. A father description will be given our readers next week.
