time of this default there was not a man amoag the Republicans of this county but felt it was a reflection on him: not a man that voted for him but felt a sting by reason of it; not Wause you were a taxNyer, but you felt it a a Republican, because you bad honored him, if it was an Vnoi at all, for bavins? voted fot him. I don't lielieve there u a Mingle one of all these 1800 men who voted foi him but felt a sting when i t was discovered that he was a defaulter, not so much on account of 1 he money lost, but by reason of

the confidence yon placed in bun Deng abused and dihgraced. i felt t hat hting. You felt it, the sting f disgrace. Now, gentlemen, what shape does that present it in? Simply this. The Democratic party is making, or seeking to make political capital out of it. They ail agree that McKinney ought to be prosecuted. All who have proceeded me here on this subject say that McKinney ought to be prosecuted, but .say this is not a proper resolution in this kind of a meeting. I submit that it is proper for Republicans who elected him, to do so, we have a right in this way to discard him, and thus show it is right; in the language of the Tjelkpmoxe, which I read this morning, quoting from the language of Ex-JPrssidcnt Grant, "let no guilty man escape!" General Grant was referring to a Kepublican at that time, and we have i right, as Republicans here assembled, here where it is presumed we can get a fair expression of the people -j sentiments, we have a right to say that he was elected by us, that he betrayed us, and that the Republican party is now, as evM Ul favor of the enforcement of the law m dl& ready to correct the abuses its own wrongs; and we claim that today we are willing to seek him out, that we are willing, not only as citizens but as Republicans, not only to seek him out but assist in bringing him to deserve justice, ind will in no wise condone his crimes. I don't suppose this will catch him. That is not the object of it. The object is to let the people know that when we placed him where he was, and when he had opportunities to steal did so, and thus betrayed us, that we have now no condolence for him, and demand that he be brought hack into this county and triecand punished for his crime. And as one gentleman has said Mr. Eller, I believe, "99 of every 100 Republicans of Monroe countv are in favor of this resolution.'' Something has been said here about the prosecuting attorney. I wu not prosecutor for several month s after McKinney left; and even if 1 had beeu, I don't know that I would have done differently. The prosecutor is nota detective, tloctor (addressing Dr. McPheeters.) It is no part of the prosecuting attorney's duty to go around to foreign States and bring back fugitives from justice. Show me the law for it! I have no more right in this matter than you have. It is my duty, when he t is brought here on this floor and is at this bar, to prosecute him iu the name of the StatT That M all o my duty, except as, to preliminary matters in preparing the indictment on which he shall be tried.

In closing Mr. ilill indulged in a vein of humorous remarks touching the KcKinney bond and bondsmen, provoking laughter often times. Upon the conclusion of his remarks the resolution prevailed. Here putting on paper our sentiments on this subject, so that every man in the county, whether Democrat or Republican, will know the way we stand on this default. It assures them that we are in favor of seeing the law enforced, and in favor of taking some step with the view to bringing him back- I hope the resolution will be adopted; and I should fear exceedingly the results, if you fail to adopt this resolution. Duncan of Monroe county is an aspirant for the Republican nomination for Judge of the 10th Judicial Circuit, Therefore Be it Resolved, by the Republicans of Monroe county, that Mr. Duncan has the hearty good will and confidence of the party in Monroe county; and that he has our endorsement in his candidacy; and that the delegates this day appointed to attend the Judicial Convention of this circuit be and they are hereby instructed to cast their vote of Monroe county as a unit in his favor, and that they steadfastly stand to his support as l$ng as there exists reasonable hopes of hit nomination. So plainly was the residt manifest chat one did not have to sweep the horizon of debate with a telescope to behold this fixed fate, for to use a clerical phrase, "the critters was sot." II. C. subject to the Republican party. THE CONVENTION. A foundation for a splendid Republican victory was laid ly the Mass convention, last Saturday afternoon. The meeting was large, thoso present were representative Republicans, and the action taken was with an earnestness and enthusiasm that shows with what determination the party enters upon the coming canvass. A careful reading of the proceedings that are published elsewhere in this issue, evidence the interest that has already been taken in the struggle upon us and set forth the grounds upon which the contest will be fought. It was a Republican convention in every sense that word implies, and the variety of discussion, that was at all times har monious and good natured, shows the accord and harmony of the party throughout the county and fortells the united action that is to follow. A persual of the list of delegates and the making up of the Central Committee shows that recognition has been carefully bestowed upon every township; and those acquainted with the make-up of the Central Committee pronounce it one of the v$ry best for efficient and faithful work, that ba ever been appointed by any party in Monroe county.
