What is Philo going to do about it? By all means let us have a new stove in the Labratory. A students i comfort is necessary to a good res- : citation. Buskirk, Philputt, and Egner j were among the number who took ; in "Indiana day" at the Louisville i Exposition. The lecture last Sunday by Dr j Moss on "Self Conqest" elicited the ; closest attention, and the Doctor ' grew very eloquent at times. ' The quietness which prevailed in front of the college before election ' was almost paneful .and induced some one to ask who had died Dr. Moss made some appropri-

His i friends will rejoice when he is able, j to be with them, again. Prof. Clark went to Louisville j to attend the Exposition this week ;. Prof.Armagac took charge of the Shakespeare class during his absence j and showed that he can teach Enjglish as well as Greek. J The girls are lamenting the j fact that very few of the new stud- " onts go in company, indeed some of j the boys who were formally known i as the "ladies men of college" are ! not sustaining their reputation. The giiJs demand a change. : This is probably the worst time 1 of the year for sickness resulting '' from bad colds. The student can not be too careful in regulating the temperature of h s room. enaoie it to inmii its true missionand this duty was fully recognized in the commendable action of that body at its last session. Certainly no such event as the recent fire should induce a subsequent Legislature to reverse the policy adopted last winter which reflected so much honor upon the State. I know so well from personal experience the advantages of the present location and the attachment of the Alumni to the good people of Bloomington, that I would be very sorry to see the University remove! to any other place. This ought never to occur unless the citizen and authorities of Monroe county should fail to manifest a proper interest in its retention. As to local consolidation or union with the State institutions now at Terre Haute and Lafayette, I doubt, in the first place whether it is legally practicable, and, in the second place, even if practicable whether it woidd prove beneficial. It occurs to me that tb wisest course to persue would be t place the three institutions, in their present locations, under the control
of one lioarAot Regents or Irustees, and thus secure systematic co-operation and a proper division or limitation of institution, avoid jealousies and rivalry, and present to successive Legislatures the just and equitable claims and needs of each institution in such a way as would ensure favorable action. I regret that I am so far away as to be unable to render any assistance in this emergency, but m 1 am deeply interested in these matters, I will be greatly obliged for any ju ormation yon may be so kind as to send me. Very truly, John W. Foster.
