Why don't somebody relieve Banta
occasionally, and give hi m time to write his speech Dr. Moss went io the Capital Tuesday to attend a meeting of the State Board of Education. Prof. Houghton favored us with a very interesting lecture on the Panama Canal schemes, Saturday. The other evening great was Scott's surprise te see Baker with bunged-up eyes. I was only an April tool. For Valedictorian Hesperian has elected Ella Turner; Philo, F. C. King, and Athenian, Frank Mulky. Miss Long honored the University. Hood returned safely from Greensburg, but says he did not see his girl taffy. One would think a wedding was a very solumn occasion, judging by how slow the students walked back lo col1 ige after the marriage Mondaj. Prof. Jordon was the only profc sor that took in the Contest. More of them should have gone. The boys would willingly have excused them. The conduct ot the President of the State Oratorical, at the contest. was not such as would reflect credit upon himself or University. Why didn't he show the markings of the judges? One of the students who went to the Capital wanted to take his girl to the content, but was afraid he couldn't get her there because he didn't know how to drive a carriage through the streets of the city. So he had to give it up. Now the time of year for ham mocks is here, and many may bo suen spending the afternoon m set mug bliss in them. Bnt they are dangerouh things. You don't know w hen they 'are going to "spill you iu For further information ask Senior Shirk. f Senator Meade "while at the Capital put up at the New-Denison. Tlu bill of fare was printed on very handsc me cards. Senator took the one handed to him and began marking off the things he didn't want, when the waiter politely informed him he was not to mark the card, but tell what he vanted. The Senator ordered his dinner without further marking. McKay, ot tne senior class, was m m -m -w r i i . . back luesaay. Me leit on tne noou train for his home, thence he will go to SanFrancisco and embark lor Alfldka the 1st ofMav. The best wishes of his class go with him. Although it will be impossible for him to be here to graduate with his class, he will receive his diploma and be classed with those who make their farewell speeches. The spirit manifested by a very few of the students befoie and after the contest was detestable. Such remarks as "I hope she won't get it," and "she will come out last," showed a little too little amount of egotistical jealousy. And theu to see them mingle congratulations when the news came that Greeneastle took the first prize and we the -eeond. We say that such conduct is unworthy students of the Indiana University. Of course they felt sore over the defeat of their favorites; but if they knew lest and had more sense, they would vent their feelings on the judges, nut ou one who was not resjonj-ible.
